Album Review – Triptykon “Melana Chasmata”

Melana Chasmata is the second full-length album by Swiss extreme metal band Triptykon, released through Prowling Death Records/Century Media Records on 14 April 2014 in Europe and on 15 April 2014 in North America. Melana Chasmata follows in the nightmare created by its predecessor Eparistera Daimones quite stylishly and effectively. “Eparistera Daimones”, the album was produced by Triptykon’s singer/guitarist Tom Gabriel Warrior and guitarist V. Santura and recorded and mixed at V. Santura’s own Woodshed Studio in southern Germany as well as at Triptykon’s rehearsal facilities in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2013 and 2014.

Like so many before them, Metallica “Ride The Lightning” and Iron Maiden “Killers” to name a few the band has truly found their way on this sophomore release. From the opening feedback squeal of “Tree of Suffocating Souls” to the final crusher “Waiting” the album is a pulverizing celebration of doom and despair, compete with artwork once again by legendary Swiss surrealist painter, sculptor, and set designer
H. R. Giger. Must have for fans of doom, death and all thing’s heavy metal…..pre-order here.
