New Video Interview With Viza @ Aftershock 2014

VISA Black

Viza continues to captivate the global music scene with an erratically amusing blend of energized international rock. Unique in its musical arsenal is the inclusion of oud and percussion blended with more traditional rock elements such as guitar, bass and drums. This fascinating fusion, combined with dramatic and powerful live performances have garnered Viza significant success all over the world.

Demonstrating a knack for reinventing old rock classics, Viza recently covered the Doors tune “Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)” by adding its own strong seasonings and aggressive fusion style in a compelling reimagination of this classic rock ballad. The song is available for free download here and will be featured on Viza’s upcoming tour with Serj Tankian.

Aside from a passion for music, touring and song writing, Viza’s extensive performances around the globe also serve as their voice for promoting social consciousness of human rights and community issues – as well as providing opportunities to fundraise for various charities, homeless shelters and orphanages.

Kingdom Of Giants – Ground Culture Review

Kingdom of Giants, if you don’t know about them, you should. They are a 6 piece metal/ hardcore/awesome outfit from our very own Sacramento Ca. The very first time I heard about this band was when I played with them at The Boardwalk in Orangevale, Ca. It was my first show with my band and I had heard all this buzz about Kingdom of Giants and how lucky I was to be opening for them. We played in front of a fairly decent crowd but when they stepped on the stage, the place was packed. They came out and just blew the roof off that place, I became a fan as soon as the first note was played. I was however skeptical of the clean vocals that were done at the time by their keyboard player, something that also had rubbed me wrong.

This was during the album “Abominable” which I liked but didn’t love. I kept an ear out and an eye and heard a couple tracks off of the album “Every Wave Of Sound”. Wow. Here was an album that punches you in the face from the first track. So it was made solid, I was a fan. If you have every been to a party I am at you can bet I have Kingdom of Giants on a steady rotation. Enter 2014, KOG has been signed to InVogue Records after countless tours across the United States and announces a new album coming soon. They release the music video “Ground Culture”  off the upcoming album, Ground Culture. I was excited, they announced the release, I waited and then it was there. I plugged my phone into my surround sound and pressed play. You hear an old movie reel and crickets, then almost the sound of a faint train, you see a view of what looks to be Los Angles, my breath was held. The screen changes to their logo and then explodes into the track.

The first 48 seconds I was almost concerned until a chug chug riff came in and I was sold. Here is a band that has had a few line up changes but the one I have noted most is the clean vocals being done only by Dana Willax the vocalist. Here is a band that in my opinion has come full circle since that first show three some years ago. You can’t help but to bob your head in a manner that may break your neck. Most recently they released a lyric video for another crushing song entitled “Endure”. Further showing this bands growth and ability to expand past any previous genre barriers they might have been plugged into. You have incredible riffs, smashing breakdowns, 808 drops that you feel in your soul, screams that make you feel like you were with Dana when he wrote the lyrics and meaning in those lyrics that is not seen if everyday music.

They have pre order bundles online that include limited release shirts and other items, I have purchased mine. In wrapping this up I will say that while I am from Sacramento and talked with guitarist Red, bass player Levi and vocalist Dana on a few different occasions, whenever I see them I am brought back to when I was a kid seeing one of my favorite bands. I have no hang ups saying I am a fan to this band and a die hard one at that. Keep an eye out for Ground Culture which is dropping on 10/21/14 through InVogue Records  and give this band some support. They will blow you away through your speakers the same way they do on stage.

Bullet Tooth to release OVERCAST Triple Disc Discography!

70Bullet Tooth is excited to announce the 3x CD Discography “Only Death Is Smiling” from Massachusetts’ metal legends OVERCAST! The band started in the early 90s long before the explosion of metal from the New England area, and released a few albums on indie labels until the late 90s when they broke up to focus on new bands like SHADOWS FALL and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, and more recently, DEATH RAY VISION. As a lot of their titles are currently out of print, the band decided to release “Only Death Is Smiling” on Bullet Tooth featuring 45 tracks on 3 separate CDs, scheduled for release late 2014.

To say that OVERCAST were legendary is fairly accurate, as most newer metal bands have paid tribute to the obvious influences in their music. In fact, some give OVERCAST credit for starting the massive sub-genre called METALCORE.  Their recent performance at This Is Hardcore in Philadelphia sent hundreds of metal and hardcore fans into a frenzy with their brutal and technical metal written with the dancefloor in mind.

Some heavy hitters in the current metal world are as excited as we are about this new release, and we checked in with both Jesse and Adam from KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and Ken from UNEARTH to see why OVERCAST was and is still exciting to them:

“In my eyes, Overcast was one of the most influential bands from their era. They came at a time where it wasn’t so commonplace to mix heavy musical styles as much as they did. (And their singer Brian looked like a spooky creature from the deep with his hair.) Their ability to make unique, heavy, aggressive, and melodic songs was such a cool thing to see back then, and ultimately was what brought me to want to do a collaboration with Mike.” – Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage)

“When I was in the Danvers middle school system, one of my older high school friends Jay (Agoraphobic Nose Bleed) handed me ‘Expectational Dilution’ on a copied cassette. Needless to say, I was in awe!  Overcast was and always be one of the greatest bands to come from the New England area!  I followed them religiously from gig to gig and was lucky enough to share the stage with them once or twice.   The Unearth camp still rocks the whole discography to this day!  Fans for life!!!” – Ken Susi (Unearth)

“Overcast was Revolutionary! Back when I first saw them I was blown away and quickly became a fanboy following the band around the Northeast and eventually landing shows with them with my band at the time Corrin. Every show became more and more intense, you never knew what was going to happen at an Overcast show. They changed the face of music for many people like my self who witnessed the brutality and precision of this band. I recently saw them play at set at “this is hardcore” 2014 and I screamed along to every word! The blend of hard hitting hardcore and metal riffing along with Brian’s mid range guttural screams makes Overcast a crucial part of the history of heavy music. They changed the game and helped inspire an entire generation of bands.” – Jesse Leach (Killswitch Engage)

REVOCATION post third video from the Making of ‘Deathless’!‏

REVOCATION have spent the last eight years converting fans to their cause with four full length albums, an EP with Scion AV, and a charismatic live show led by guitarist/vocalist Dave Davidson. The Boston-based band also features the staggeringly talented lineup of: Dan Gargiulo on guitar, Brett Bamberger on bass, and Phil Dubois on drums. REVOCATION has firmly been established as one of the genre’s finest and will continue their campaign as part of the Metal Blade Records roster. Their fifth album, “Deathless,” is a fitting debut for the label, and a definitive statement of intent from the band.

Deathless” is set for an October 10th release, view the artwork, track listing and first single which is the title track at metalblade.com/revocation. The album will be available in CD, 2LP and digital formats. Get a first listen to the song and be sure to pre-order the album. The limited first edition Digi-CD as well as the vinyl edition of “Deathless” will feature exclusively the Morbid Angel cover “Sworn To The Black“!

Deathless” was recorded with acclaimed producer Zeuss at Planet Z studios in Massachusetts. The album is ten tracks of ambitious, catchy, and undeniably heavy material. Musically, cuts like “Madness Opus” showcase a more deliberate REVOCATION – restrained, if even moderately so, to deliver a slow, near-dirge like track. Alternatively, the title track highlights the diversity of Davidson’s vocals with a catchy chorus. It’s an earworm the likes of which the band had only previously hinted. The rest of the album offers a refreshing variety of music and truly feels like an “album”, rather than a collection of similar tracks. This is a refinement, achieved only through years of focusing on their craft.

Brand Spankin New Video From Terror

66

Los Angeles hardcore act Terror released their new album, ‘Live by the Code,’ last year via Victory Records. Today, the band has teamed up with Revolver to premiere their new music video for “Cold Truth.”

Frontman Scott Vogel said, “How many times can you make a video of us jumping around acting all mad at the world? I’m sure we’ll have a few more of those down the road, but this is a totally different, unexpected, and a fresh look for a Terror video, and that’s a cool thing. Thanks to Carlo and everyone behind putting this thing together because, to be honest, we got off extra easy and didn’t have to do any of those really uncomfortable video shoots and nonsense. Plus, now we have a video with hookers, handfuls of pills, and dead rats in it.”

Fit For A King Video Interview With Capital Chaos TV

Fit For A King‘s Ryan Kirby chats with Adam Kirk of Capital Chaos TV @ The Assembly 10/01/14 – Sacramento, California

Solid State Recording artists, Fit For A King have announced a new album, Slave To Nothing, to be released October 14th. Produced by Will Putney (Suicide Silence, Miss May I) Slave To Nothing promises to be their biggest sounding and most cohesive work to date. Although composed of a humble and unassuming quartet in their early 20’s, this is not a statement to be taken lightly.

In addition to the lyrical themes, the band says Will Putney’s input as a producer also helped the progression on the new album. On the musical differences found with Slave To Nothing, Kirby notes “we were very green when we recorded the other albums. Performance wise we were tight but after getting signed we didn’t have much experience in experimenting in the studio or developing the songs. This time around working with Will, he really gave input and above the board dedication to make this record great! Some of that input ranged from being honest enough to tell us to trash certain riffs because we could do better to even noticing repetition of the word ‘me’ in a verse and suggesting revisions.”

While fans attending the band’s sets during Warped Tour have gotten some previews of the forthcoming album, Fit For A King have confirmed tour dates from August well into Spring 2015. Slave To Nothing is coming, don’t miss it.

New Lyric Video From Sacramento’s Hoods

64

Hoods is a hardcore punk band from Sacramento, California. Formed in 1994 by Mike (Hood) Mraz who later added Logan Murray, Tony Goodloe and Billy Gaffney. Hoods shows influences such as Madball, Sick of It All,Minor Threat and Cro-Mags. They released their first EP entitled Once Again in 1996 and concentrated on live performances. After numerous fights between fans and an altercation between a couple of the band members and a police officer, the band was more or less forced out of the Sacramento area. The band concentrated efforts on the San Francisco Bay Area playing shows with groups such as Powerhouse, Redemption 87 and Skin Lab. In 1997 after a disagreement with bandmates and his mother’s illness Gaffney left and was replaced by Jeremy. Murray and Goldoe then left and were replaced by Ben and Mario. Mike was the only original member left. The Hoods were dropped from Victory Records.

Fit For A King perform @ The Assembly 10/01/14 – Sacramento, California

Smashing onto the Solid State roster with their 2013 release Creation/Destruction, Fit For A King had the BIGGEST album debut in the history of the label (which is no small feat considering their catalogue also includes heavyweights such as Underoath, August Burns Red and Demon Hunter). Well exceeding expectations the band found themselves in the enviable position of #3 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart.

Anti-Mortem Interview @ Aftershock 2014 With Amb Pirate

Amb Pirate chats with Levi Dickerson of Anti-Mortem @ Aftershock 2014 – Sacramento, California

What the American hard rock and metal scene needs right now is an infusion of youth and some new blood coursing through its veins. Enter ANTI-MORTEM and their upcoming debut album, New Southern. An Oklahoma quintet whose combined average age is just 21-years-old, ANTI-MORTEM were raised on southern rock & heavy metal and driven by a hunger to make an impact. The band dole out bottom-heavy and groove-laden heavy rock anthems, and as with all the metal greats they’ve learned from, a modern sense of melody infuses every track. Also present and accounted for is southern swagger, courtesy of the band’s roots and upbringing
