TesseracT – Polaris

teseract

There are albums to listen to and bands to watch perform but only an elite few musical collectives manifest creative work that must be experienced. Ascending to the forefront of the progressive hard rock and metal community through creative fearlessness and determination, TesseracT invite listeners on an expansive, esoteric, and atmospheric journey, constructing unique and immersive worlds within their music, all of it drenched in swirling layers of sound, distinctive melodies, and unapologetic experimentation.

What TesseracT have achieved with Polaris, released by their new UK label home Kscope and in partnership with eOne Music in North America, is nothing short of total liberation in an otherwise rigid genre. Many progressive metal bands will claim creative independence but in fact adhere to the same “rules” as anyone else. Much the way Tool, Deftones, and Radiohead created signature atmospheric fingerprints while reinvigorating their sound with each new album’s broadened horizons, TesseracT’s evolution is one of perpetual motion. The journey is itself the destination and the albums are the vehicles.

Unburdened by genre restrictions, emboldened by an embrace of melody, dynamics and singular focus, TesseracT delivers a bold statement of purpose with Polaris. TesseracT founder Acle Kahney (lead guitar), longtime collaborators Jay Postones (drums), Amos Williams (bass, backing vocals), and James Monteith (guitar), and returning vocalist Daniel Tompkins (whose first show back was on the mainstage at the U.K.’s Sonisphere) have honed in on the most exciting elements of their now trademarked sound. Dense, destructive, reconstructive, and forward-thinking, Polaris delivers on the promises made with the fierce One and the even more progressive Altered State.

Storytelling with both lyricism and musicianship, TesseracT’s compositions are dense with meaning and urgent with something to say, literally and figuratively. The straightforward and boldly accessible “Seven Names” is alternately poetic, while the Alice in Wonderland like “Utopia” is almost melodramatic and theatrical. “Hexes” will appeal to those weaned on Classic Rock, even as Tompkins’ enrapturing tones interplay with the Jeff Buckley style croon of critically acclaimed guest vocalist Martin Grech. “Cages” is among the band’s most progressive songs, a musical attack on creative expectations even as the lyrics (like “Messenger”) deconstruct social conditioning.

The diverse array of spacious warmth, controlled chaos, and earnest atmosphere on display in TesseracT’s music hints at an ambitious future more in line with legendary cultural mile-markers like Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, and Porcupine Tree. Made in England just like their modern likeminded descendants in TesseracT, these are bands that blazed a trail for newcomers endeavoring to establish a formidable body of work.
tes 1
The band’s two full-length albums and as many EPs established the U.K. act among the creative leadership of a subgenre flourishing beneath the shadow of the mighty Meshuggah; a progressive metal subset pushed forward evolutionarily by TesseracT and their contemporaries in bands like Periphery, Animals As Leaders, and Textures.

Radiohead’s OK Computer, Metallica’s Master of Puppets, Iron Maiden’s The Number of the Beast, U2’s War, Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run, The Smashing Pumpkins’ Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness – these are records that took the idea of the “difficult third album” and smashed it to bits, etching a crucial and timeless moment in stone for each respective artist. While TesseracT have no pretentions about what history may or may not decide about their contributions, they are in one-hundred percent control of their creative trajectory and cement a bold identity with their own album three, POLARIS.

TesseracT has arrived at the highly coveted destination of true creative freedom through bold artistic risk-taking, which has resulted in a loyal audience who are not only comfortable with being challenged by each successive release, but demand to be. A new TesseracT recording is a gift to unwrap, a puzzle to solve, an adventure that beckons.

Local Heroes Sages And Heat Of Damage Bring The Rock To Ace Of Spades

Heat Of Damage perform their smash hits @ Ace Of Spades – Sacramento , California

Heat of Damage consists of four young men who write, produce, and perform an edgy and eclectic mix of rock, metal, and alternative music. Their self-produced EP Orenda was created and produced in the drummer’s garage and debuted in 2013.

Since then, the band has performed at numerous venues in the Sacramento area. The group released their second EP, Lifestyle, in September 2014. The title track was featured on 98 Rock’s Local Licks program for three weeks running. Lifestyle’s “Apocalypse” was released soon after and earned a spot on 98 Rock’s Local Licks Most Liked Song of 2014 Countdown Show. The song came in at #2 for the year!

The group is well-known for their musicality and showmanship. Shows are high-energy, engaging, and solid. Because all four members are vocalists, their musical range is impressive: everything from heart-thumping rock to hints of screamo punk to melodic ballads. Heat of Damage never disappoints!

New Psychosomatic Artwork Revealed

psycho

New album cover set to release Sept 18th 2015

From the depths of Sacramento California the crossover thrash metal, punk rock band PSYCHOSOMATIC was twisted into form in 1988. Spewing forth chaotic blasts of jackhammer style guitar picking on top of super tight speed drumming, ripping fast bass guitar lines and ferocious vocals, spitting out lyrical topics ranging from anti-establishment social issues to horror and insanity. The Sacto thrashers barrage listeners with fast, tight, punk style energy songs into the technical darkness of metal. Psychosomatic has carved their trench in the underground thrash metal world with several US tours, leaving blistering eardrums in their wake.
Psychosomatic has four full length releases to date including 2006′s Unquenchable Thirst and 2010’s Another Disease. Along with two video cuts “Another Disease” and “Everybody Hates Me” featuring guest singer Nickie Sickie from Verbal Abuse. Psychosomatic has several tracks on various compilations such as, Thrasher Magazine’s Skate Rock vol. 9. Cheap Ass Music vol. 1 on Cheap Ass Records. Mechanized Death: A Tribute To The Accused on Transparent Records. Shred or be Shredded on Buried in Hell Records. And Econo-Comp on RecordsOnTap. Psychosomatic has played various fests including San Francisco’s Tidal Wave as support for Exodus, Hirax & Attitude Adjustment, and New Jersey Death Fest 4.

For their last album “Another Disease” Psychosomatic toured the U.S. four times in two years, two weeks San Diego to Seattle tour with Australia’s Vicious Circle, two weeks west coast tour with New Jersey’s Hammer Fight, also playing several shows between tours. ONE MACHINE Unveils “The Final Cull” Cover Art & Track Listing‏

one machine

ONE MACHINE, the brainchild of acclaimed guitarist/songwriter Steve Smyth (Testament, Nevermore, Forbidden, Dragonlord, Vicious Rumors), recently announced the impending release of their second full-length album, The Final Cull, out on September 18th worldwide via Scarlet Records. Today, the band has released the new album art, illustrated by Gustavo Sazes (Gus G. Morbid Angel, Arch Enemy).

“We are very happy to present our new album cover for The Final Cull, designed by the very talented Gustavo Sazes,” states guitarist and ONE MACHINE mastermind Steve Smyth. “The cover concept behind The Final Cull is a bit of fantasy, a bit of reality crossed in between, as we present the idea of humanity being wiped out by the advancement of technology, at the hands of a small set of powerful human beings bent on power and control over all, even at the cost of the general population.  The only useful and lasting valuable assets of humanity is the human soul, this last piece behind taken daily via technology, mind control, and psychological warfare. The scene of the cover is set in the near future, where human beings are rounded up and placed into tubes, which take the soul, to be placed in the “new” human beings, complete A.I. human replicas, and here is where the album begins… we hope you will join us down the dark path that is The Final Cull!”

ONE MACHINE is also pleased to reveal the track listing for the two upcoming album versions.

Vanlade vocalist Brett Blackout has checked in with the following comment:

We are excited to announce that we have joined forces with Metalizer Records for the release of “Rage Of The Gods”. We’ve put a lot of hard work into making sure this album is a real killer, so it’s good to know that it’s in excellent hands in Europe with those guys. New Videos from The Duke Boyz & The Maverick Mikel Knight.

Rive 1

\For one man, humble beginnings is too grandiose a phrase to describe the life from where Mikel Knight emerged. But the rocky back story and tales of being a have-not is of no consequence when the path ahead is paved in pure gold. Mikel Knight’s journey from a kid with an affinity for good music to a man that created his own musical genre reads like a chapter from The Alchemist. He is a seeker, a visionary, a leader and an artist. He is organically grown and dedicated to being true to his cowboy roots. The man who was born to shake up the music industry and knock down the walls of conformity is armed with confidence and dangerous on the mic. Couple that with an army of cowboys dubbed the Maverick Dirt Road Street Team, and you have the formula for a takeover. So strap yourself in and get ready to experience the untamed life and voice of the Maverick of Music Row. This. Is. Mikel Knight.

When asked about his new project The Duke Boyz, ‘The Maverick’
Mikel Knight had this to say.

“Besides my new album (Urban Cowboy, Where the City Meets the Country) I also have a group album coming out with the Duke Boyz, called Denim & Chrome. The group includes my brother KoolWhip from Austin Texas. Anywhere you’ve seen Mikel Knight, you’ve seen my brother Koolwhip. On stage, or in the videos, you can’t miss him. Also Nashville’s own Jellyroll, as well as myself, make up the remaining members of the Duke Boyz. This album is like a mixture of Brantley Gilbert, Lil John, and Mikel Knight. Add a little whiskey and some buckshot, and you got Denim & Chrome, due out this fall.”

The Zenith Passage & Fallujah Fillet The Bay

The Zenith Passage perform their smash hits @ Bay Area Death Fest 2 – Oakland, California

It was in early 2012 that a small recording collaboration between two friends (Justin McKinney and Greg Hampton) began to coalesce into something that would prove to be well more than the sum of its parts. The Zenith Passage may have come about from humble beginnings in a stuffy Los Angeles apartment, but the produce thereof is anything BUT humble. Even the earliest demo tracks delivered a relentless torrent of technical guitar work accompanied by a distinctly frenetic and brutal vocal delivery that has since become an unmistakable hallmark in a scene that is all too often the victim of stagnation.

With the onset of all these new developments, and the lineup nearing completion, it seemed only natural to take the next step and join the ranks of those by whom they had been so heavily influenced. Thus, in the summer of 2013, TZP had the honor of signing on with Unique Leader Records for a multi-album deal. The stage is currently set for TZP to secure their foothold in topmost reaches of the metal pantheon, and they are hard at work churning out new content for their debut full-length. Rest assured, this marks only the beginning. The world has only just set foot onto the passage towards the pinnacle, the apex, the Xenith. BLEGH.

Fallujah perform their smash hits @ Bay Area Death Fest 2 – Oakland, California

Fallujah was founded in early 2007 by high school friends Alex Hofmann, Scott Carstairs, Tommy Logan, Dan Wissinger, and Suliman Arghandiwal. Their first show was on June 15, 2007 in Walnut Creek, California. Their first four songs released were “Tyrant”, “Verdict”, “Schleicher” and “Infidel” as demos. The bands sound and inception was heavily influenced by the Bay Area hardcore scene; often playing with bands such as Lionheart, Hoods, Suffokate, and Lose None.

Later that year, bassist Dan Wissinger and Drummer Tommy Logan departed. Brandon “Brando” Hoberg from the band Vivisection joined on bass and friend Andrew Baird joined on drums. In winter of 2007, Fallujah recorded their 2nd demo at TWS studios in Vacaville, California. The songs “Prophets”, “Blacklist”, and “100 Years From Now” were on this demo. They were released in January 2008.

Amongst its ranks, Black Map includes vocalist and guitarist Ben Flanagan [Trophy Fire], guitar player Mark Engles [Dredg], and drummer Chris Robyn [Far]. It’s a formidable three-piece that creates equally formidable music, elegantly striking that elusive balance between heavy and beautiful. On their full-length debut for minus HEAD Records, And We Explode, Black Map charts new territory for its members and hard rock. Within a month of their first jam session, the trio hit Hellam Sound in Oakland with producer Aaron Hellam behind the board. They cut their independent Driver EP and went on to support Chevelle on tour and play various shows with the likes of ††† (Crosses), Tombs, Pelican, and Kill Devil Hill. In early 2014, they inked a deal with minus HEAD. Now, they’re primed to make a massive impact.
