Phillip H. Anselmo and The Illegals Premiere “The Ignorant Point”

Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue is the anticipated new full-length from PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS.  Relays ANSELMO of the crushing tune, “The Ignorant Point” is a tip of the hat to today’s top-notch, morally-sincere, trustworthy news agencies, websites, bloggers etc. that have kept the public in such great spirits with their dedication to truth and honesty. Burp. Keep up the good work, bullshit artists. We’ve got our collective eyes on you.”

Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue will see release on CD, vinyl, and digital formats in North America via Housecore Records. The record is being licensed in Europe by Season Of Mist. Physical preorder bundles are currently available via the Housecore Store.

PHILIP H. ANSELMO hasn’t just paved his own path; he’s bulldozed it with his bare hands. His primal, powerful presence led Pantera to Grammy Award nominations, sales of 20 million albums worldwide, legions of diehard fans, and an indisputable heavy metal legacy. Simultaneously, Down carved out a distinct niche with a gold-selling debut and three more critically acclaimed releases. Superjoint made a triumphant return in 2016 and in the midst of everything, ANSELMO joined Scour alongside members of Pig Destroyer and Cattle Decapitation and teamed up with horror icon Bill Moseley for the Bill & Phil project. However, PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS speaks to a certain need for him.
Instead of treading the same ground, ANSELMO and his bandmates in THE ILLEGALS, open up another doorway altogether with their 2018 sophomore release, Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue, available through the vocalist’s own Housecore Records. It’s extreme, abrasive, aggressive, and anthemic. In other words, it’s purely ANSELMO.
Following up 2013’s Walk Through Exits Only, this new body of work hinges on no holds-barred lyrical misanthropy and insurgent instrumental intricacy as it sharpens any and all edges to guillotine precision. “It ain’t pretty,” ANSELMO exclaims. “It’s more straightforward and cohesive to a degree, but it still goes off the rails here and there. We went through it song after song cut and fucking dry. I was in a specific mindset. I wanted to further my endeavors into a genre of music that I adore. As all ten songs blow by, I wanted an unforgiving feel. This is what was on my mind. It’s a recorded capsule of time.”
Following a successful maiden touring cycle for THE ILLEGALS, the frontman hunkered down at his home studio in Louisiana to record what would become Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue in 2014 and 2015. The lineup shifted as Stephen Taylor (Superjoint) transitioned from bass to guitar, Mike DeLeon (Flesh Horder, Being Killed, ex-MOD et al) joined as a guitarist, and Walter Howard (Grieved, Oppressive Force) took over bass duties. Meanwhile, Jose Manuel “Blue” Gonzalez (Superjoint, Warbeast) held down the drums. Through rigorous rehearsals and writing sessions, a framework for the new music took shape as ANSELMO wholeheartedly welcomed the ideas of his cohorts.
“Their creative input is fucking fantastic,” beams ANSELMO. “This is something that was very different from the first record where I was very staunch. I wanted it to be ugly. I was very firm that I was writing every fucking note. The thought was, ‘This is my contribution to ugly music right this second in a heavy metal vein.’ That was great at the time. Walk Through Exits Only made its own little statement that I am a free agent and I belong to no single band. This time, I worked closely with everyone. We tried different ideas together. It made the spirit of this thing come alive even more because of the enthusiasm these guys bring. It enhanced the integrity of the project.”
“Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue is going to get hated. It’s going to get loved. Like every record I’ve ever done, I put zero expectations upon my peers, critics, or the general fucking public,” he continues. “If you take one thing away from it, let it be this: Do not bog yourself down to one brand, character, or whatever. Have the guts to spread your wings and fucking flourish. I can promise you this is a beginning. As my music trickles out over the next two years, it’s going to be quite the roller coaster ride. This new ILLEGALS is just the tip of the whole fucking avalanche.”

Ola Lindgren of Grave Interviewed In San Francisco

The Mighty Z of Capital Chaos TV conducted an interview with guitarist/vocalist Ola Lindgren of Swedish death metal veterans GRAVE before the band’s October 12, 2012 concert at Slim’s in San Francisco, California during their North American tour with MORBID ANGEL and DARK FUNERAL. You can now watch the chat in two parts below.

Sweden’s legendary death metal kings GRAVE have returned home. Never let it be said they don’t know how to make an entrance.

“Home” in this case is Century Media, ground zero for their 1991 launch with “Into The Grave” and six more albums of sonic violence before seeking out new avenues following “As Rapture Comes” in 2006 with the now defunct Regain Records. And although the two records that surfaced while GRAVE was away – “Dominion VIII” (2008) and “Burial Ground” (2010) – continued to uphold the band’s penchant for quality mayhem, new outing “Endless Procession Of Souls” hits like a ton of bricks thanks to its relentless speed, crushing groove, and unexpectedly rich clarity.

Released at a time when death metal is enjoying unparalleled popularity and competition for the crown is fierce, “Endless Procession Of Souls” takes the best of what GRAVE has offered in the past and chalks up a bigger and meaner spin on things. The band’s sole remaining founding member and musical director, vocalist/guitarist Ola Lindgren, is only too happy to be back on familiar turf and spearheading what has been deemed by some of GRAVE’s long time supporters as their strongest and most diverse album since “Soulless” was issued in 1994.

New Lyric Video From Italy’s Frozen Crown

Frozen Crown is a Melodic Power Metal band with female and male vocals, drawing inspiration from early Sonata Arctica and Nightwish, as well as from the most recent European metal acts like Orden Ogan. Between catchy and epic refrains, melodic guitar riffs and vocal duets on a solid Power Metal basis, the band makes frequent incursions in Classic Heavy Metal (Iced Earth, Iron Maiden), Folk and Melodic Death (early Children of Bodom and Dark Tranquillity), occasionally adding screaming vocals.

The use of Keyboards enriches the songs and adds an epic edge to them, without being too invasive for the band’s sound, which still remains heavily guitar driven. The songwriting duties rely on singer, guitarist and keyboard player Federico Mondelli (Be The Wolf), flanked by singer and frontwoman Giada Etro (Ashes You Leave, Tystnaden). The rest of the band is formed by 17 years old female guitarist Talia Bellazecca, bass player Filippo Zavattari and drummer Alberto Mezzanotte.

King Witch’s “Under The Mountain” To See Release Via Listenable Records This February

This February, Listenable Records will unleash Under The Mountain, the debut full-length from Scotland-based metal/doom rockers KING WITCH. In advance of its release, the band’s official video for “Beneath The Waves”, can be seen below. Calling the record, “heavy and epic,” the Decibel furthers, “Driven by thunderous riffs and rhythm section and propelled into the next dimension by powerhouse vocalist Laura Donnelly, the quartet just sounds huge…”

Elaborates Donnelly, “‘Beneath The Waves’ was inspired by stories such as Moby Dick and explores man’s need to destroy anything and everything beautiful, dangerous, and unfamiliar… and the retribution dealt in return. This track felt like a natural choice for the video – soaring vocals, massive drums and some huge riffs!”

Under The Mountain was recorded and produced by guitarist Jamie Gilchrist at their underground studio in their home city of Edinburgh, mixed and mastered by Tom Dring at Vagrant Recordings (Dragged Into Sunlight, Acolyte) in Southport and comes swathed in artwork created by Donnelly. The record serves as KING WITCH’s follow-up to their debut EP, Shoulders Of Giants, and boasts nine riff-laden tracks offset by Donnelly’s powerful yet bewitching vocals. Influenced by everything from Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin to Mastodon and High On Fire, Under The Mountain is as melodic as it is monolithic, taking its listener on a journey from soulful doom to full-tilt metal mayhem.

Formed in early 2015 in a dark cavern beneath the streets of old Edinburgh, KING WITCH manifests a potent and heavy brew of old school metal and the meatiest of ’70s classic rock. In a time where many seek to stick rigidly within the confines of their chosen genre, KING WITCH simply writes the songs they want to play.

In the video below, Pustulus Maximus of Gwar, discusses killing the Warped Tour, killing humans, eating pussy and more with Iron Serbian of Capital Chaos TV @ Ace of Spades in Sacramento, California.

In further news, Gwar, are returning to conquer and destroy Australia in APRIL 2018!
“The Blood of Gods Tour” continues on into Australia, as your masters and supreme overlords take their one of a kind carnival of blood-drenched death and destruction Down Under. The last time GWAR visited Australia in 2014, they upset the Australian public with the controversial and media-hyped beheading of an effigy of then-Prime Minister, Tony Abbott. The body count will be even higher when GWAR returns to Australia in April of 2018 for more heavy metal carnage. Mark your calendars or leave the country.

Blothar the Berskerer had this to say about the upcoming bloodbath: “People of Australia, koala bears, kangaroos, crocodiles, wallabies…lend me your ears…and your skulls, and all of your internal organs…GWAR is coming to turn the Land of Dreams into your worst nightmare. Fire up the barby, we are going to eat Australia!
As for the Adelaide scum and your worthless existence, the so-called “Rock Capital of Australia”… is that crack rock? We shall turn the Great Australian Bight into our Great Australian BITE as our parting gift to Australia.”
GWAR are riding the wave of worldwide dominance with their new record The Blood of Gods, released by Metal Blade Records in October 2017. The new record, and the spectacular tour to support it, have been praised by fans and media alike as triumphs of unimaginable genius.

Moon Darling’s “bewitching psych rock of the 70s” “By The Light of The Moon” EP, out Jan. 26th.

Seattle-based foursome Moon Darling is racking up early attention for its muscular psychedelic 70’s sound ahead of the release of a new EP, “By The Light of The Moon” scheduled for Jan. 26th. The band has also announced a record release show in its hometown at Fred Wildlife Refuge on Jan. 25th.

Moon Darling premiere

The fierce fretwork on the new collection by Michael Julian Escobar is matched by his Madison Square Garden-level vocals, and Moon Darling’s compelling presentation doesn’t stop there.

The not-so-hidden ace is likely drummer, Michelle Nuño, as heard in the EP’s title track. Rounding out Moon Darling’s sound is bass guitarist, Jack Jay laying down sneaky, winding, and always in the pocket lines, along with keyboardist, Matthew Buckner.

“Learned Amongst The Sky,” the second official single from “By The Light of The Moon” is also streaming at this link.
