The Browning Announce New Album “Geist”

Kansas City quartet The Browning – Jonny McBee [vocals, electronics], Brian Moore [guitar], Collin Woroniak [bass], and Cody Stewart [drums] – will release their fourth album Geist through Spinefarm Records on October 26. In advance of the release, the band has shared the new song “Carnage,” featuring Jake Hill. Listen below.

“Our new album Geist is by far our most dynamic sounding record,” said McBee about the new track. “It has the heaviest, and softest music The Browning has ever written. ‘Carnage’ is tip of the hat to the classic sound we have but with a ton of intensity and a feature from Jake Hill. When I wrote this song, the only thing I had in mind was to make it as high energy and hyped as possible.”
Regarding Geist, McBee continued, “My end goal for The Browning is to be industrial-electronic-rock-metal,” said McBee regarding Geist. “For this new album, I knew there needed to be a massive change not just musically for listeners, but for myself. That change had to come from the vocals. I’ve been working on finding the right voice for three years that’s powerful and melodic, but still extremely heavy and emotional. It was a long process, and I documented most of it live on my Twitch channel.”

Red Dragon Cartel To Release “Patina” November 9th

Lee (Ozzy Osbourne, Badlands) returned with a fresh new band, Red Dragon Cartel in 2014.  Now, Jake and RDC are back with their new album “Patina“, which is set for release November 9th via Frontiers Music Srl.
Today, the first single and video, “Havana” has been unleashed.  Watch it below.
Jake’s 2014 comeback was greeted with much enthusiasm from the fans and media alike and the virtuoso guitarist is back once again to grace the rock world with his unbridled skill! With an extremely talented band featuring Anthony Esposito on bass (ex-Lynch Mob), Phil Varone (ex-Saigon Kick, Skid Row) on drums and returning vocalist Darren Smith (Harem Scarem) backing him up, Jake has delivered the album fans have been eager to hear since Badlands dissolved years ago.

GOROD to Release Tenth Full-Length Album, “Aethra”

Following up on their critically-acclaimed album A Maze of Recycled Creeds and the incredible thrashy EP, Kiss The Freak, technical metal icons GOROD are set to release their upcoming 10-track album, Aethra, on October 19, 2018 via their new international label,Overpowered Records. Aethra marks the 10th release from GOROD.

Produced and recorded by GOROD guitarist/mastermind Mathieu Pascal in his own Bud Studio, mixed at Dugout Studio by the outstanding Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, Behemoth, Decapitated, In Flames) and mastered by Lawrence Mackrory at Obey Mastering (Decapitated, Nightrage), Aethra is poised for Album of the Year status.

In comparison to GOROD‘s previous albums, the band sees Aethra as a profound progression in terms of production, songwriting and arrangements. Guitarist/producer Mathieu Pascal says, “We decided that I would be in charge only for the recording in my studio, and chose Daniel Bergstrand for the mixing and mastering, as we love his work for decades. It puts some pressure on me, firstly because I’m used to working alone with the production of GORODalbums. The tracks should be clear and perfect enough to be easily understood and included into the mix the way I imagined. But also, because I still feel like a newbie compared to Bergstrand and I just didn’t want to look like an amateur job! Bergstrand and McCrory did an awesome job on this album, the sound is powerful but still natural and balanced.”
Aethra track listing:
1) Wolfsmond
2) Bekhten’s Curse
3) Aethra
4) The Sentry
5) Hina
6) And the Moon Turned Black
7) Chandra and the Maiden
8) Goddess of Dirt
9) Inexorable
10) A Light Unseen

Chilean Death Metallers PULVERIZED Streaming The Track “Devoción”

Chilean death metal horde Pulverized is coming up with their debut full length via Krucyator Productions in both digital and jewel-case CD editions. The album, aptly titled as “Monuments of Misanthropy”, is slated for worldwide release on October 13, 2018.

“Devoción”, the opening track of the album is currently streaming below.

Chilean cadavers PULVERIZED awoke in the city of Santiago in 2006. They perform death metal with a strong American influence from the early ’90s, without leaving aside the essences of the glorious South American extreme metal scene. Their lyrical themes touch the thoughts about life, death, Christianity and its moral decadence in Western Society. Having two demo releases in their discography, they have already illustrated the sign of miasmic assault, that is uncontrollably fierce and absolutely petrifying.

“Monuments of Misanthropy”, the impending debut album, will lay the cornerstone of a new epoch in the band’s history. Featuring lyrics in both Spanish and English, PULVERIZED deploy unholy feelings in veins throughout the six abominably composed furious songs. In terms of sonic landscape, this album stands in a supreme point where viciousness, profanity and primitiveness are in poise.

This striking debut album will see the worldwide release on October 13, 2018  via KRUCYATOR PRODUCTIONS on Jewel Case CD and digitally.  The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at DM6 Studio by Pablo Clares. Santiago, Chile.

Massacre of Terror Universal “Punk rock, mixed with metal, mixed with fuck you.”

In the video below Zoran Theodorovic chats with Dave Chavarri aka. Massacre of Terror Universal at Ace Of Spades on Summer Slaughter 2018

Terror Universal’s masked marauders – who are also current and former members of hard rock and metal royalty such as Machine Head, Ill Niño, Soulfly, and Upon A Burning Body – began stalking the senses in 2014, releasing the Reign of Terror EP a year later and eventually sharing the stage alongside heavy hitters including Korn, Asking Alexandria, HELLYEAH, Papa Roach, Fear Factory, Incite, and more around the globe.

On what he gets from Terror Universal that he does not get from Ill Nino…

Its a totally different vibe, with Ill Nino its more of an ethnic vibe, with you know Latino influences. With Terror Universal its more of a brutal vibe, more of an attitude, that punk rock, mixed with metal, mixed with fuck you. I wanted to do something with Terror Univesal that i havent done before in my carreer and Massacre is a cool escape of being whoever the fuck you want to be.
On unreleased early Ill Nino material…
There is a couple of things that we didn’t release, prior to actually signing to Roadrunner, that we might be putting out on a ep or something else. We don’t necessarily wanna milk the band, and just throw shit out there just to make money, believe me we’re not that type of band. We want to put something that we’re proud of at the end of the day. We’ve talked about doing a live dvd, Ill Nino is a very live band. Right now I don’t have any plans for Ill Nino for the end of this year or beginning of the next, I’m just worrying about Terror Universal right now. This is my main priority, my main situation.

Branden Blacker of Suburban Paranoia “Respected. I’ve treated everyone I’ve jammed or worked with respect and love.”

Suburban Paranoia began in 1990 as punk/metal band and over the years has grown into fierce speed/power/thrash metal with melody unit that needs to be seen. Since the 90’s Suburban Paranoia has played many shows and tours and have evolved in their line up to what they are now. Currently a 3 guitar assault of sound of crunch and melody that needs to be heard. Charismatic and always full of energy, Suburban Paranoia’s live showcase is pure adrenaline and power that consistently wins over fans at every venue.

How did you first get into music? Who or what turned you onto metal?

“When I was about 13 my friend Matt showed me how to sort of play ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ on guitar. Before that I was into sports, and it steam rolled from there haha. Needless to say I no longer played sports after picking up the guitar. In terms of metal, I was turned on to it by my deadbeat dad who picked me up for a visitation when I was around 5 or 6 years old. I got into his Trans Am (no joke) and he turned it on and started blasting something loud and crazy, so I grabbed his arm at 5 or 6 years old and asked him…”What is this!?” He replied… “This is SLAYER SON!” and my love grew from there.”

What got you started playing music and how old were you?

“As I said in the last question, I was about 13 or so and just kind of picked up guitar. I never had to really be taught anything… I just picked it up and did it. Same thing with bass, vocals and drums. It came naturally.”

What was your local scene like in the beginning, was there a particular band you aspired to be like, favorite local bands back then, favorite local bands now?

“Oh man.. The local East Bay area rock and metal scene were incredible in the years I started around 97/98. There were shows every weekend at The Depot, The Concord Vets Hall, The Pound SF, Slims SF, Bourbon St Bar amd Grill, The Time Out, The Danville Grange Hall and more.. there was always something to do. Back then I was in a couple shitty bands like The Burning or Bloodstool just having fun, but I truly enjoyed bands from that era like G2K, Domeshots, Fingertight, Insolence, Minus Capita, Clearing Autumn Skies, Un I.D. and a few others. ”

“Now, the scene is definitely not as prevalent, but it is there, with shows always at Red Hat Concord, Pine St. Livermore, Toots Tavern in Crockett, Ca and Vinnie’s Bar and Grill there is usually a good amount of shows happening every couple weeks. Some of the fore running top bands from this area include Toy Called God, Gurschach, His Name is Robert Paulson and The Devil In California.”

How did you become a vocalist and drummer? Are you proficient in any other instruments?

“I started singing hardcore punk rock in Bloodstool, where I was trying to channel the likes of AFI, NOFX, The Misfits and The Nerve Agents back when I was like 14 or 15. Eventually that changed to metal as I mostly focused on guitar for some old metal bands I was in. I didnt start taking up vocals again until I started creating Giving The Devil His Due, which the 1st recording were so awful haha. It was a brand of chaotic hardcore like Every Time I Die, From A Second Story Window and Bleeding Through and started playing guitar and singing for GTDHD live as a two man and drum machine unit. It was ok when it worked, but thats what turned me into a drummer. I was sick of having technical difficulties live from our “drum machine” so I started playing the tracks I programed and even sang lead vocals and drums live, it was weird, so eventually that turned into a full band. Chaos followed after that.”

You are currently in Surburban Paranoia & now again in Giving The Devil His Due, what kind of satisfaction does each band give to you?

“Suburban Paranoia gives me the satisfaction of being able to song write with like minded individuals who enjoy thrash metal. GTDHD gives me the satisfaction of writing the dark moody hardcore that I really want to create as it shows my internal struggle, as the vocalist of both, I can only do that with GTDHD because too many personalities bog down my vision in SP.”

Has music at all been therapeutic for you, is there a particular artist or type of music you go to for comfort?

No I wouldn’t say comfort, but I will say, when I’m having a bad or empathetic type of day, any band that Howard Jones (Killswitch Engage, Light The Torch) is in will typically put me in a good mood as I belt out tunes in my car on my way to work.”

How has the metal scene, in the Bay Area changed, since your last Devastated Fest? What have been the positives and the negatives?

“The positives are that the bands are so good right now. There arent many shit bands clogging up good shows. The negatives are, there are not too many venues for a variety of shows to choose from sometimes. The bands for some reason are much easier and humbler to work with. I tried sooo hard to get Devastatedfest 3 off the ground in 2014. But, ALL the bands I was approaching wanted something, local bands, bands that didnt do much out of their county, etc.. they wanted guarantees, refused to sell tickets, etc etc etc… It didnt make any sense. So I gave this selfish scene a break. Now… The talent and musicians are sooo cool to talk to and deal with that it made booking D3 this year simple. Other than a headliner.. I had booked the entire line up within a week tops.”

How would you like to be remembered?

“Respected. Ive treated everyone Ive jammed or worked with respect and love. I would want to be remembered as someone did what they could to be creative while keep the music a priority.”

What was the first music you bought, what was the first concert you saw, where was it and with who?

“Haha, I honestly don’t want to say the 1st cd’s I bought myself because it was an impulse, because I had 6 bucks in my pocket and will buy the most affordable thing I could see… Lets just say, it wasn’t very metal haha.

“My first concert was actually with my friend who showed me the guitar. It was with him and his Dad, we sae The Misfits, Fear and The Groovy Ghoulies at The Crest Theater in Sacramento in 97.

You’re on a desert island and only have three albums to listen to for the rest of eternity, what are they and why?

Every Time I Die – “The Big Dirty”
Iron Maiden – “The Book of the Souls”
Metallica – “And Justice for All”

What does metal mean to you?

“Emotion. Life Pulse.”

BURNING WITCHES – “Hexenhammer” Cover Artwork Released!

BURNING WITCHES are not only the hottest export from the Alpine Republic, the five piece from Switzerland are also one of the most thrilling newcomers in old school heavy metal spanning the last few years – globally! The new album Hexenhammer will be released on November 9th, via Nuclear Blast Records.

Today, the band presents the cover artwork for their second studio album. This stunning was visualization created by acclaimed artist Gyula from Hungary, who has also created artwork for DESTRUCTION, ANNIHLATOR, GRAVE DIGGER, STRATOVARIUS, TANKARD and many more.

The band states:
“We are very proud to present you our new album cover for HEXENHAMMER. The topic is the Malleus Maleficarum book, that legalized the extermination of the so called ‘Witches’ in the medieval times.   The justification of murder against the weak , is still a sad subject nowadays! So we wanna pay respect and remember – most of the lyrics are dealing with this dark chapter of our history as well. Of course, we also wanted a classic & mystical metal layout that reflects our music perfectly – so it is a great mix!  We hope the fans will enjoy it!“

Gyula adds:
“It is not too easy to make a “metal” cover when the main character and focus is an attractive woman. It is much easier to create gory images with monsters or devils for me. But I remembered that my first original cassette was the WARLOCK Triumph and Agony’ album, so I felt very motivated to incorporate both of those aspects: some black magic & some beautiful ladies! I got some instructions and a sketch from the band – so I painted the witch and the altar first as a main focus and everybody loved the character and the feeling of the image. When I added the ghost images of the girls, it all aligned into a dark magic artwork with beautiful ladies.“
