Seven maniacs from Sacramento, CA-Twig the Exfoliator [vocals], The Ugly American [vocals], Tapeworm [guitar, electronics], Catastrofiend [guitar, visuals], Jimmy Hazard [guitar], Jon the Jew [bass], and Sgt. Pepper [drums]-raze and shred expectations with a singular style of crossover gonzo gutter thrash fueled by reckless punk abandon on their upcoming EP, Some Version of the Truth, out February 24, 2017 via minus HEAD Records. iTunes pre-orders will be available soon, with Bandcamp and Amazon pre-orders live now.
“So much music is missing a sense of urgency,” exclaims Twig the Exfoliator. “We want to bring that danger back.”
Since their formation and the release of 2013’s Dialogues with the Dead, the band has stirred up a furious local following and national fervor. They’ve received acclaim from press and fans alike and their live shows have become the stuff of legend, with the band often appearing in costumes and treating their performances like a theatrical party. One night will be priests versus boy scouts, while the next is cops and robbers or even a zombie beach party!
In late 2016, the KILL THE PRECEDENT entered Pus Caverns in Sacramento, CA with producer Joe Johnston. They quickly cut the Some Version of the Truth‘s seven anthems, composing the singles “Two Way Mirrors” and “Watch What You Think” in the studio.

Texas Death Metal Outfit Desecrate The Faith have released a new song from forthcoming album Unholy Infestation. “Sacrilege Reborn” is now streaming.

Desecrate The Faith will release sophomore album Unholy Infestation March 3 on Comatose Music.
Comatose Music has formed an unholy alliance with Texas born death metal monstrosity Desecrate The Faith. Rising from the infernal flames of Houston in 2012, they soon released their successful debut Disfigured Arrangement in 2014, then followed up with American and European tours. Now Desecrate The Faith has returned with their punishing sophomore full length Unholy Infestation. Complete with unrelenting blasphemies, bringing technical style riffs alongside merciless blast beats and putrid guttural vocals. With bestial tracks like “Malignant Divinity” and “Angel Eater,” the band is unleashing a demonic entity that fans of all death metal can feast upon. Be on the lookout for this sacrilegious offering of godless brutality!

Also released today is the fourth video trailer in which Jake and Joseph talk about recording and mixing “Nocturnes and Requiems” Watch it here via YouTube
Based out of Los Angeles, Calif., WITHERFALL is the collective brainchild of guitarist Jake Dreyer (Iced Earth, Kobra And The Lotus, White Wizzard), singer Joseph Michael (White Wizzard) and the late Adam Sagan (Circle II Circle, Into Eternity).   The recording lineup is rounded out with the addition of acclaimed Bassist Anthony Crawford (Allan Holdsworth, Virgil Donati).
“Nocturnes And Requiems” is dedicated to the life of Adam Sagan who passed on December 7, 2016 during the final stages of production. The band collectively commented, “This, as we know, is the last piece of work that Adam contributed and played on. Adam’s talent, passion and personality is woven throughout every part of this record as he was easily 1/3 of the creative force. “Nocturnes and Requiems” was a name that Adam eerily came up with one evening when we were figuring out album titles would not have sounded the way it does now without his immense contribution on and off the drums. Adam, we love you and it’s a tragedy that you were not able to see this release. You will always and forever be a member of WITHERFALL. Rest In Peace man.”

Obituary Premiere Second Single “Turned To Stone”

Florida death metal legends OBITUARY have shared the second single off their forthcoming, self-titled full-length. Watch the album art, lyric video accompanying “Turned to Stone”

Loudwire comment: “As if thawing after 1,000 years entombed in ice, the song opens up with slow-churning riff and a low to high guttural scream from John Tardy, whose reputation as one of death metal’s most unique and savage vocalists is never in question. In lockstep rhythm on all fronts, they settle into mid-tempo slam-styled groove, only picking up the pace when the frets start flying during the solos on the back half of “Turned to Stone.””

Obituary is due out March 17th, 2017 on CD/LP/Digital. Physical and digital pre-orders are available now via Relapse here.

Overkill: The Grinding Wheel – CD Review

What can be said about a band like Overkill that hasn’t already been said? They are among the pioneers of Thrash Metal, always consistent with their musical style, and show no signs of slowing down. The band’s latest album is entitled The Grinding Wheel and displays once again, these old school Thrashers still got it, and got it good.

With the bulk of the writing being done by bass extraordinaire D.D. Verni and lead singer Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth, it’s a little amazing this writing duo never run out of solid Thrash riffs. I mean really think about it, The Grinding Wheel is Overkill’s 18th studio release and their sound is still lively and as fresh ever.
As much as I enjoyed Overkill’s 2014 release White Devil Armory, I’m pretty sure The Grinding Wheel tops it. The combination of the rhythms, Bobby’s voice and production make this album sound old school and new all at once. As Thrashy as this album is, it’s also super clean sounding and here are a few prime examples that stood out to me.
Right off the bat starting with track one “Mean Green Killing Machine” we get a killer intro of drums followed by that traditional Overkill guitar tone and D.D.’s bass rumbling. The intro builds up slowly and then the payoff, a true Thrashers dream, a rhythm that should instantly turn any floor into a sweet circle pit. What I truly enjoyed about this tune is towards the middle of the song, there is a little slow down and we hear a lower toned Bobby sing in a range not normally associated with him. That slow down is followed by another build up and paying that off with some on point guitar solos towards the back half of the song. “Mean Green Killing Machine” is solid track and battling for my favorite on this album.
The very next track is called “Goddamn Trouble” and it is just downright fun. This particular tune struck me having a Southern tone or influence. Sort of odd that’s what I heard knowing darn well these Thrash veterans are straight New Jersey boys. Anyhow, the riffs and rhythm section hold the fort down with a steady energetic groove that every Headbanger wants from his Thrash music.
Moving on to track seven “Come Heavy” is possibly the most “commercial” sounding song on this record. It’s not super Thrashy, but it is heavy as hell. D.D.’s bass lines are really amazing on this track. If you are a fan of bass players like yours truly, you will appreciate this track. There is really steady drumming done on this track as well as some really neat guitar solos. Not the truest Thrash tune on this record but it’s one of my favorites.
What I enjoyed about Overkill’s record The Grinding Wheel most was there were moments where I could have sworn I was back in 1987, when Thrash was king. The Grinding Wheel has everything you want in an Overkill album, or any album. Great riffs, Bobby’s vocals are on point and really good writing. The new material should be most excellent live when their tour starts this month. You should buy this album and a ticket to the show, you won’t regret it.
