Everybody’s favorites jokesters Green Jellÿ to bring the mother$#@^in’ ruckus to Sacramento’s Goldfield Trading Post. February 8.

Since forming over 43 years ago, Green Jellÿ have been making audiences laugh uncontrollably and rock out simultaneously. And while the band members were far from financially stable during their formative years, the group liked to dub themselves “The World’s Worst Band.’ For those not privy, the band’s moniker was originally Green Jellö, but they were forced by dessert giant Kraft Foods (the owners of the Jell-O brand) to change it or suffer further litigation.

Local promoter Abstract Entertainment has been bringing the band to the area since the early 90’s with appearances at the sadly defunct Cattle Club, the Colonial Theatre, and Crest Theatre both as a headliner and direct support for shock rockers Gwar. This Thursday’s appearance will find bandleader / singer and only original member – Bill Manspeaker – leading a cavalcade of costumed guests and band members while they plow through the band’s back catalog.

Originally signed to the same label as Tool – Zoo Entertainment – it was ‘Cereal Killer Soundtrack’ that really launched the band into a national headliner and spawned the hilarious video for “Three Little Pigs” directed by Fred Stuhr who was also responsible for Tool’s “Sober” video. Guests on the aforementioned record also included Les Claypool (Primus), Danny Carey (Tool), Maynard James Keenan (Tool), and comedian Pauly Shore. If you haven’t seen their Grammy-nominated claymation video, you’re in for a real treat.

Not as prolific as their fans would have wished, Green Jellÿ did still manage to put out five full-lengths including Triple Live Möther Gööse at Budokan (1989), Cereal Killer Soundtrack (1993), 333 (1994), Musick to Insult Your Intelligence By (2009), and Garbage Band Kids (2021). Additionally, they’ve released four Eps, one live album, and a handful of singles.

Green Jellÿ return with Project Mayhem AD, Open The Sun, and Gaslit Riot on Thursday, February 8th at Goldfield Trading Post located at 1630 J Street in downtown Sacramento. Doors open at 7pm and the show kicks off promptly at 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased at here goldfieldtradingpost.com for $20 advance or take your chances at the door. All ages are welcome.
