Technical Death Metal Icons GOROD Stream Brand New Track, “The Sentry”

Technical metal icons GOROD recently announced their upcoming 10-track album, Aethra, set to be released on October 19, 2018 via their new international label,Overpowered Records. Aethra marks the 10th release from GOROD. The album is available to pre-order digitally via AmazoniTunes and Google Play, and in several physical formats via Overpowered Records’ merchandise site.
Today, GOROD dropped the technical, melodic masterwork “The Sentry” – the first single to be released from Aethra. Listen to the track now streaming below.
Vocalist Julien Deyres says, “The concept behind “The Sentry” is that of worldwide myths and beliefs concerning the owl, and more specifically the barn owl. This nocturnal bird that is almost always associated with the moon in many different cultures is also generally considered as a guardian of the kingdom of the dead. This explains the title, and the lyrics are a global presentation of how human beings can perceive a same symbol in different places in the world.

We chose to release this song first because we see it as a good introduction to the new material on this album. This track is “straight in your face”, groovy, fast, and also showcases a brand new melodic orientation in GOROD‘s music.”

Dave Davies Of The Kinks Releases New Track “Same Old Blues”

Founding member of The Kinks Dave Davies has released a new track “Same Old Blues” from his upcoming album Decade, a new collection of unreleased songs recorded in the 1970’s. The song was recorded in 1978 and is currently streaming via Billboard alongside an in-depth interview with Davies. “It was recorded in an exploratory fashion in the Kinks’ own recording studio, Konk, during downtime between touring and recording sessions – but Decade is satisfyingly fully formed,” writes Billboard. Decade will be released on October 12th via Red River Entertainment and Green Amp Records, and Davies will be on tour in early 2019.

Listen: Dave Davies – “Same Old Blues” below.

In what may be considered the sequel to 2011’s Hidden Treasures, which chronicled Davies’ solo recordings from the 1960’s, Decade pulls back the curtain on the legendary guitarist and songwriter’s unreleased works spanning 1971 to 1979. Davies writes, “I am so pleased that after all this time these tracks are being released to see the light of day. These songs have been silently nagging at me to be recognized all these years. At last I can proudly present this album Decade to the world. I do hope you all enjoy the music.”
Decade is currently available for pre-order.
Years prior to the issue of his first “proper” solo album, 1980’s AFL1-3603, Davies was working on the fascinating tracks that make up Decade. The tapes were unearthed by his sons Simon and Martin from “under beds, in attics, in storage,” and properly mixed and mastered in a way that lets these songs shimmer and shine even brighter than they did at inception. Any album recorded over the span of 10 years runs the risk of ending up wildly erratic in tone and style, and yet, Dave’s Decade is surprisingly cohesive, the songs working together beautifully as songs on great albums do.
The period 1973 to 1975 saw The Kinks make the move into their own recording studio, Konk, which Davies took a major role in setting up and developing. “I’m always really into the sound, and the mixes, and gadgets…” writes Davies. “I was able to go in, and make what I thought were demos—these recordings.”
Listening to the contemporary, FM radio-friendly quality of these songs, it’s hard to fathom that these solo tracks remained under wraps, particularly as these were born in the aftermath of clear Dave Davies triumphs such as “Strangers” and “You Don’t Know My Name,” change-of-pace songs that added considerable value to the early ‘70s Kinks albums they appeared on. But with brother Ray deep into the creation of a series of high-concept albums on which Dave’s songs had no apparent place, these Dave Davies gems remained unissued on both the solo and band fronts. Davies explains, “We were busy, and we were touring, The Kinks were very vibrant that whole period of time. It wasn’t really until the end of the ‘70s that I started to really take my writing seriously. I should have done it anyway—because what’s ‘serious’ and ‘not serious’? Just get stuff out, you know?” In 1978, a song contemporaneous with these sessions, “Trust Your Heart”, was chosen to appear on The Kinks’ Misfits album, and Davies became very active as a solo artist at last, with a series of well-regarded albums in the 1980s and beyond.
A long-time inductee of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, Dave Davies helped shape the landscape of rock and pop music across generations. A seasoned yet spontaneous rock-n-roll visionary, Davies was named one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.

Aftershock Artist Spotlight: Amigo The Devil

If you’ve ever heard a room full of people yelling “I hope your husband dies” in a some harmoniously sloppy, drunken unison, you’ve probably stumbled into an AMIGO THE DEVIL show. Danny Kiranos, better known to the masses as his musical counterpart AMIGO THE DEVIL, has been challenging the expectations of traditional folk, country music purists, and rock/extreme metal fans alike with his morbid, dark, yet oddly romantic take on folk that has amassed a dedicated and cult like fan-base.

Today, AMIGO THE DEVIL has premiered the electric, rock-driven new track, “Everyone Gets Left Behind” – featuring Prophets of Rage drummer Brad Wilk and its streaming below.

Everything Is Fine was produced by Ross Robinson (Korn, Glassjaw, At The Drive In) and features drummer Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Prophets of Rage) sitting in on the entire recording session. The album was recorded at Valentine Studios, a time capsule untouched since the 70’s with all the original gear and atmosphere. Everything was recorded, mixed and mastered to tape to capture an absolute and pure brutal honesty.
AMIGO THE DEVIL will be embarking on a national tour in support of the new record. Despite being armed with only his vocals and a banjo/acoustic guitar, the live show is worlds away from what people expect of a folk show. Loaded with sing-alongs and an unsuspecting dose of humor to make otherwise grim topics accessible for fans of every genre, the songs remain deeply rooted in the tradition of story-telling that seems to be slipping away from the human condition. It is a must see show this Fall! Check out tour dates here or see below.

Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats Premiere New Song “Stranger Tonight”

You can probably feel it already. Amid the shimmering haze of dusk. In the marrow of your bones. The darkness is getting darker. Malevolent forces are on the prowl. The wasteland is beckoning. Uncle Acid is on his way home.

The brainchild of mercurial Cambridgeshire mystic Kevin Starrs, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats have been making extraordinary music since 2009. Now they return with their fifth full-length album. 47 minutes of vital, audacious and frequently bewildering heavy psychedelia, it bears the title “Wasteland” and is instantly recognizable as Starrs’ most immersive and evocative body of work yet. The album is set to be released on October 12th via Rise Above Records.

Night Crowned is:

In the frozen vasts of Europe’s northernmost realms, a new slithering seed is festering at the heart of the Swedish scene – NIGHT CROWNED. A spawn formed from an unholy communion between current and previous members of the underground elite such as The Crown, Dark Funeral, Nightrage and Cipher System, this infestation is set to grow from a rumoured disease into a full-scale pandemic.

NIGHT CROWNED’s musical vision is as clear as it is putrid; a reawakening of sounds dormant from the most influential acts and masterpieces of the Scandinavian 90’s, although with all the advantages of a cutting edge, surgically precise production.

With a combined catalogue of over thirty full-length albums, this degenerate infant is procreated from seasoned and battle-hardened veterans, although with all the hunger that only such a gluttonous monster can possess.

There will be no warning. No antidote, and no remedy. At first you will feel nauseous, then your body will be covered in black boils, and finally both your mind and and matter will have been thoroughly infected by the blight that is – NIGHT CROWNED.
