Age Of Taurus To Release “The Colony Slain” via Rise Above Records

“Many centuries ago, when the world was slightly younger and a little less ravaged by time’s unrelenting grasp, there existed a sprawling empire of unrivalled power. Yet, whilst its might and influence stretched across great oceans and through vast mountain ranges, its immense dominion was born not out of prosperity and industry, but from rampant fear and blind obedience…”
So begins the arcane tale behind The Colony Slain, the second full-length album from doom metal diehards Age Of Taurus. The album is set for release May 18th via Rise Above Records.
Nearly five years on from the release of acclaimed debut Desperate Souls Of Tortured Times, singer/guitarist and conceptual mastermind Toby W. Wright is ready to unveil a new, ultra-dramatic chapter in the turbulent saga of the Taurean Empire. Showcasing a new line-up featuring new bassist Leo Smee (With The Dead/ex-Cathedral) alongside Wright, drummer Darius Claydon and most recent recruit, guitarist Daniel Knight, The Colony Slain is the sound of a great band reborn in heavy metal glory.
Rejuvenated and refocused, Age Of Taurus have returned from the wilderness bearing the most potent of gifts. Living, breathing, thunderous proof of doom’s timeless allure and the inspirational power of the riff, The Colony Slain brings past, present and future together in a riot of heartfelt heaviness and, as the story says, unrivalled power. A new age is dawning and this story never ends…

Doom Metallers Bell Witch To Kick Off North American Tour

Seattle doom metallers BELL WITCH will kick off a North American tour with Denver doom trio Primitive Man this week. The journey begins on October 24th in Salt Lake City, Utah and runs through November 19th in Mesa, Arizona. From there, the band will take a short break before joining French doom metalists/labelmates Monarch! for a stretch of live dates from December 1st in Vancouver, British Columbia through December 7th in Los Angeles, California with more performances to be announced in the coming days. Additionally, BELL WITCH will bring their devastating odes to the stages of Roadburn Festival 2018 in Tilburg, The Netherlands. The band will perform two sets, the first on Saturday April 21st at the 013 venue and Sunday, April 22nd at Het Patronaat recreating Mirror Reaper in its crushing entirety. See all confirmed dates below.
BELL WITCH will be touring in support of their breathtaking Mirror Reaper full-length, released last week via Profound Lore. Engineered and mixed by veteran producer Billy Anderson (Swans, Sleep, Neurosis), the duo of Dylan Desmond (bass, vocals) and Jesse Shreibman (drums, vocals, organ),Mirror Reaper delivers one continuous, eighty-three-minute piece unfolding as a single track. While retaining the immense weight of their previous releases, Mirror Reaper sees the band explore the more meditative, melancholy, and introspective aspects to their sound through the introduction of long, lonely organ passages and the return of vocalist Erik Moggridge (Aerial Ruin), offering a prominent presence.

Usnea Shares New Song “Lathe Of Heaven;” Full Album Details Announced

Portland doom quartet USNEA has announced the full details of their third full-length album, Portals Into Futility. Inspired by dystopian science-fiction and the painful intersection of today’s crushing reality, Portals Into Futility offers five songs and fifty-six minutes of expertly crafted and elegantly depressive doom/sludge.

With an evolved sound of strength and dynamism, USNEA delve more into the worlds of dissonant death metal, varied vocal structures, and cinematic composition, all while maintaining the monumental heaviness, brutality, discord, anger, and mournful melodicism of their previous work. Across dark and brooding peaks and valleys, USNEA reminds us that no matter how many doors are opened to the human species, our self-aggrandizement and hubris all lead to futility.

Comments the band of the track, “‘Lathe Of Heaven’ was inspired by the eponymous book by Ursula K. Le Guin. It is a meditation on the blurred line between cognitive reality and delusion wherein the protagonist can change reality through dreaming. A well-intentioned psychologist attempts to corral that power but ends up creating more chaos and suffering. In the end, human arrogance and greed are shown to be the leading contributors to our own doom.”
 Portals Into Futility Track Listing:
1. Eidolons And The Increate
2. Lathe Of Heaven
3. Demon Haunted World
4. Pyrrhic Victory
5. A Crown Of Desolation

New Video From Doom Metal Faction Castle Undraped Canadian Dates Announced‏

Welcome To The Graveyard is the forthcoming new full-length from West Coast doom metallers, CASTLE. Captured by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, Eyehategod, Ommadon et al) at Type Foundry Studios in Portland, Oregon this past Winter, the eight-track offering will see official July 15th via Ván Records.

“The song ‘Hammer And The Cross’ commands a lot of space and we wanted to find a location to match its starkness,” elaborates vocalist Elizabeth Blackwell of the clip. “We filmed the video at an old, abandoned dairy farm north of Toronto in the middle of February in Canada. The cold, swirling imagery is a perfect complement to the hypnotic doomy sounds of the song. It was a successful collaboration with our director and a lot of fun to make.”
