Maximum violence has been JUNGLE ROT‘s battle-cry since their inception and it’s proven again on ‘Fearmonger,’ the lead track from their tenth and most vicious album to date, the self-titled Jungle Rot, set for release on July 20, 2018. “Expect a beatdown if you aren’t prepared,” promises bassist James Genenz. As the album hits shelves, JUNGLE ROT will hammer audiences as they return to the road with Havok and Extinction AD starting July 23 in St. Paul, MN. “Death metal needs blood, fire and carnage,” declares JUNGLE ROT throat and rhythm guitarist Dave Matrise. Today, JUNGLE ROT has released a brand new video for ‘The Unstoppable,’ from their long out-of-print album What Horrors Await. The fourteen track underground classic will debut on vinyl format for the first time worldwide on Record Store Day, April 21, 2018.
“Filming the point-of-view aspect from a tank made this video so much better,” states Matrise. “Instead of performing with instruments, we came up with the idea of each JUNGLE ROT soldier inside their own tank – mercilessly fighting and communicating to each other back and forth like killing machines. The lyrics are actually about a rolling death machine and she’s called ‘The Unstoppable,’ the bloodiest, most bad-ass beast you’ve ever seen! Doing the camo face paint is something that I wanted to do for a while and it really captured the whole feel we were going for. Prepare for a total alpha-strike, war-gore cloud of fear with a stop-at-nothing attitude in the thick of battle!”
On the re-issued album Matrise points out, “When we first released What Horrors Await in 2009, it was a one-time deal with a limited run. CD’s never made it to the US and were sold only in Europe where the previous label was based. What Horrors Await has always been JUNGLE ROT’s most sought-after album with fans often paying ridiculous amounts of money for it on eBay. It’s really been a rare and collectible album. We’re so glad it’s now out on our home label Victory Records, it will give everybody a chance to finally hear this monstrous release.”
JUNGLE ROT storm into Canada next week for their first shows of 2018, in anticipation of their tenth studio album (set for a spring release). “We feel lucky to be able to express ourselves through so many albums and I’m hoping our fans will never tire of meat and potatoes metal!” admits guitarist Geoff Bub, as bassist James Genenz adds, “We’ve got quite a fire under our collective asses and we’re psyched to get this album out! This is going to be a nasty record!”

The wait is over and the horrors have arrived! JUNGLE ROT’s long out-of-print album What Horrors Await has been remastered and remixed, and for the first time worldwide, is available everywhere digital music is sold. The CD version goes on sale April 6, followed by a vinyl release later in April.
JUNGLE ROT leader Dave Matrise points out, “When we first released What Horrors Await in 2009, it was a one-time deal with a limited run. CD’s never made it to the US and were sold only in Europe where the previous label was based. What Horrors Await has always been JUNGLE ROT’s most sought-after album with fans often paying ridiculous amounts of money for it on eBay. It’s really been a rare and collectible album. We’re so glad it’s now out on our home label Victory Records, it will give everybody a chance to finally hear this monstrous re-release.
The vocalist/guitarist expands, “The first track on the album, “Worst Case Scenario,” as well as “The Unstoppable” have been armed in our live set for a long time and are fan favorites. Again, I’m so glad these songs have a proper release now the way it deserves. In addition to the cover of Destruction’s “Invisible Force,” there is a lot of death groove and a good mixture of songs on this re-release. I always liked this album and the way it turned out.”
What Horrors Await marked the first album to feature artwork by Gyula Havancsak, who would go on and paint the macabre imagery on JUNGLE ROT’s following three albums, as well as their upcoming 2018 release. Matrise continues, “I still remember the first time I saw this cover. It came as a total shock and awe to me like a punch the face, and we’ve worked with him ever since.”
Currently locked away in the Wisconsin frost, JUNGLE ROT is preparing their tenth cluster of bloody-knuckled tunes, coming this Spring on Victory Records. “We’ve got quite a fire under our collective asses and we’re psyched to get this album out! This is going to be a nasty record!” promises bassist James Genenz. The yet-to-be titled album features longtime JUNGLE ROT axe slinger Geoff Bub and former ‘ROT skin-thrasher Jesse Beahler.

The Trois-Rivières METALFEST is back in force for its 15th edition in a brand new room, the Cabaret of the Cogeco amphitheater! Since 2001, the largest “metal” event in the Mauricie has featured international-caliber bands, the cream of Quebec metal, bands to discover, and up-and-coming bands. Without a doubt, a festival that has carved a place of choice in the hearts of metal lovers in Quebec.
Trois-Rivières Metal promises a whole weekend on the 6th & 7th of April with 14 groups on two evenings. The program includes Deicide, Despised Icon, Jungle Rot, Beyond Creation and more to be announced.
Midwest death metal titans JUNGLE ROT will enter the studio on January 5th, 2018 to produce their tenth full length album. “Once again, we’ve stuck with the tried and true JUNGLE ROT formula to produce another killer record that all our fans and everyone will enjoy,” promises vocalist/guitarist Dave Matrise. “It’s been nice to get back to doing what we do best and that’s writing brutal, heavy music.”
The titles slated to appear include “Delusional Denial,” “Glory For The Fallen,” “Stay Dead,” “Twisted Mind,” “Fearmonger,” “Pumped Full Of Lead,” “A Burning Cinder,” “Triggered,” “Full Scale War” and “Send Forth Oblivion.” The band is also working on two as-of-yet unnamed cover songs. Recording will take place at Belle City Sound in Racine, Wisconsin with engineer Chris Djuricic at the helm. Mixing and mastering will be handled by the legendary Dan Swanö (Dark Funeral, Marduk), and accompanying the band behind the drums will be past contributor Jesse Beahler. The artwork will once again be created by longtime JUNGLE ROT album cover artist Gyula Havancsak and the record will be released in Spring 2018 on Victory Records (their fifth release for the label). Bassist James Genenz adds, “We’ve got quite a fire under our collective asses and we’re psyched to get this album out! This is going to be a nasty record!”
Since the release of 2015’s Order Shall Prevail, JUNGLE ROT invaded South and Central America for the first time, selling out shows in record time, as well as making their presence known on the 2015 Rockstar Mayhem Festival, 2016’s Metal Alliance Tour, and this past summer supporting German metal legends Destruction. Geoff Bub concludes, “We feel lucky to be able to express ourselves for so long through so many albums. I’m hoping our fans will never tire of meat and potatoes metal!”
Jungle Rot will begin a week of headlining dates starting on July 29th in Central America with shows in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Mexico. View all the upcoming Jungle Rot tour dates.
Regarding new music, vocalist Dave Matrise remarked: “We’ve been working away hard, we got seven songs written, Jimmy’s got to finish some lyrics yet, truthfully I don’t think we are going to see the day of light until probably next year in the spring, I mean we got some touring coming up, we don’t want to rush it, we want to make it special, it’s the tenth album, Its going good though man, if you know Jungle Rot, we’re not trying to reinvent nothing, it’s what we do and we do it good and people love it and some hate it, but we’re gonna stay.”
Bassist James Genenz added, “For the most part now it’s been just a lot of me and Dave just sitting down and riffing it out, we write everything with a drum machine now.”
Matrise concluded by saying, “We’ve always done that (writing with a drum machine), the last four albums, seems like the science of the band is here, Jeff and I do the writing, Geoff (Bub, guitarist) does the lyrics and it seems that’s the chemistry that works very well for us.”
