New Embodied Torment Video Interview @ Bay Area Death Fest in Oakland, California

In the video below Todd Owens of Capital Chaos TV chats with Sacramento’s Embodied Torment @ BADF 2 @ Oakland Metro Opera House – Oakland, California

Embodied Torment was founded in 2011, as Matt Chaco (vox) and Cindy Chaco (drums) joined forces with Casey Ryle (guitars), Joaquin Chavez (guitars), and David Ko (bass). After an initial phase of playing a fairly traditional form of death metal, represented by their early demo, the quintet gradually focused on the most brutal and extreme elements of their sound. Ryle departed in mid-2012, which saw the band continue on as a four-piece and record their ‘Kyphonism’ promo, which represented their new sonic direction.

After their first tour in November of 2013, their performances gained them the attention of rising death metal label New Standard Elite, with whom they signed on in June 2014. After an intensive period of writing, the band emerged in May 2015 with their debut full-length release, “Liturgy of Ritual Execution.” Built on a traditionalist framework of extreme, blasting death metal, the album weaves hymns of brutality with a dark atmosphere that is uncommon in the genre. Tracks such as Oubliette, Epoch of Suffering and Thrones of the Slain display a vision of dismal and brutal music reaching beyond the confines of Brutal Death Metal without compromising the extremity that characterizes the core of their sound.
Embodied Torment has also performed with such luminaries of the extreme death metal world as Crypt Infection, Euphoric Defilement, Exhumer, Amputated Genitals, Pessimist, Abhorration, SICK, Shawn Whitaker, Dying Fetus, Cattle Decapitation, Cerebral Bore, Krisiun, Omnihility, Carnal Decay, Arsis, Devour The Unborn, Corpsefucking Art, and Coprophiliac.

New Video Interview With Voivod Drummer Away And Oakland, California Performance Footage

Voivod print 1

Voivod drummer Michel Langevin (Away) born May 30, 1963 talks current tour, upcoming releases, writing process, memories of Denis “Piggy” D’Amour and much more with Todd Owens of Capital Chaos TV 02/20/15 @ Oakland Metro Operahouse – Oakland, California

2 camera video of Voivod performing their chart topping smash hit “Tribal Conviction” 02/20/15 @ Oakland Metro Operahouse – Oakland, California

Voivod was formed in 1982 in Jonquière, Quebec, Canada. Influenced equally by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, the burgeoning hardcore punk scene and 70’s progressive rock, Voivod forged a distinctive brand of heavy music that often relied on lyrical themes such as Reagan-era Cold War politics, post-apocalyptic literature and science fiction. Killing Technology (1987) began the band’s evolution in earnest, with the character from Voivod’s album covers (drawn by drummer Away and named as “Korgull” on 1986’s Rrröööaaarrr) significantly being depicted in a spaceship. Drawing more heavily on hardcore punk than metal influences by this point, Voivod began evolving without the aid of increasing speed and storytelling on the following Dimension Hatross. Voivod was one of the first thrash bands from Canada to gain popularity outside of their country’s borders, reaching the peak of their global popularity with the 1989 release Nothingface which featured a cover version of Pink Floyd’s “Astronomy Domine”. Other progressive rock covers include Pink Floyd’s “The Nile Song” on their 1993 release The Outer Limits and “21st Century Schizoid Man” by King Crimson on Phobos. Much of the band’s sound comes from guitarist Piggy’s usage of dissonant chords, usually played in the high register of the guitar, used extensively on Nothingface. Albums like Dimension Hatröss are dominated by dissonant chords, unexpected time signatures and guitarist Piggy’s liberal use of unconventional minor chords.

New Potential Threat SF Video Interview In Berkeley, California

Po 6

Mike Noble, Daniel Sheridan and Kenny Noble of Potential Threat SF share their thoughts with Todd Owens of Capital Chaos TV 10/25/14 @ 924 Gilman Street – Berkeley, California

San Francisco Bay Area thrash bands have long been known for their inyourface approach to music, and Potential Threat SF are no strangers to that tradition.

Originally formed as a fivepiece in 1986, they have shared the stage with everyone from Testament to Slayer to CroMags to Nuclear Assault, and just recently returned from touring with Death Angel.

Their hard working, no holds barred attitude carries over to their live shows. Though they put every ounce of grit and determination into their set, they still manage not to sound like angry old fucks. Their mentality is simple it’s just as easy for a band to get the audience involved in their show as it is to be pissed off and push them away. In short, they still have fun and show it on stage and to the fans, regardless of how long they’ve been playing or how many people are in the attendance.

Their newest offering, “Civilization Under Threat” (to be released by OSM Records), gives a nod to the old school by combining aggressive, commanding vocals with dual guitars and a thundering bottom end. Engineered and mastered by Juan Urteaga (Machine Head, Testament, Heathen) at Trident Studios has given the album a massively heavy quality without being overproduced.
