Crepitation are a Brutal Slammin’ Death-Grind band. Crepitation’s current members live all over the U.K. making the productivity of this outfit less than a sloth on his day off. Currently writing new stupidly annoying material at a snail’s pace for a release of some sort or another, but don’t hold them twats to anything or ask them when…fook nose like!!! Zoran Theodorovic aka Iron Serbian recently had the privilege of chatting with bassist Joe Mortimer at an undisclosed location deep in the heart of somewhere secret.
How did you first get in to music? Who turned you onto rock/metal? Did you ever get into funk, jazz or hip hop.
We all got into music in different ways really and are all into different music. Some of listen to the usual death metal and extreme genres such as grindcore, some members listen to gabba/speedcore music too. I think we all got into playing extreme music because of the challenge, physically and mentally, that is required. We push our sound to the extreme and we do so because like the challenge it presents.
How did you become a singer or guitarist and are you proficient in any other instruments?
Most of our members are able to play several instruments. Our drummer is one of those lucky people who can lay his hands on any instruments and make a decent noise out of it. Haven’t seen him try a nose flute yet but I’m sure he would be a master
Were you forced to go to church as a youth, if so were you an altar boy or participate in some other ways?
I don’t think any of us were forced into church but I know I certainly went when I was in my early teens. Mostly out of interest into what was going on in the world but my intrigue and questioning soon made me feel unwelcome.
Were you troubled as a youth, juvenile delinquents, burn ants with a magnifying glass, play with fire, trouble with the law?
Some of us were not so straight-laced as kids but nothing especially bad or psychotic. Just drinking, drugs and general youth mentality really.
What was the local scene in like in the beginning , was there a particular band you aspired to be like, favorite local bands back then, favorite local bands now?
Coming from a city that spawned both The Beatles and Carcass, there is music everywhere in Liverpool in one form or another. The extreme music scene has been an angry sea for many years, having peaks and troughs of interest and boredom. Diamanthian were the band that shone through when I was younger as they were the bigger name in the underground metal scene and at one point felt would be the band to break through to the next level. Sadly it never happened for them. There are some top quality local acts these days: Exhumation, Colpocleisis, Pandemik, Omnipotent Hysteria to name but a few.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
For me it would be quite a bizarre mixture of Primus, Suicidal Tendencies, Sick of it All and Devourment. Quite a broad spectrum of music but all of which represent an extreme facet of musicality on their own right.
How would you best describe your sound?
A lot of people have been describing Crepitation as Slamming Grindcore at the moment. We contain elements of death metal, slam, grindcore and extreme metal in general really/
How important is coffee in the morning and will you drink anything?
Coffee is a requirement.
What ingredients are in your secret sauce?
A bit of each member and a bit of their love
How did the band meet and how long did it take to finalize this lineup? How many other musicians did you try out that didn’t make the cut? How stable is the current lineup?
The current lineup is quite stable but as it stands we have had the same amount of members as Napalm Death.
Your most recent full length The Violence of the Slams came out in 2015, does the lady on the cover resemble any family members or ex wives?
It doesnt actually. We left the details in the capable hands of Gruesome Graphx the artist.
How soon can we expect new Crepitation music and will it follow in the vein as previous efforts?
The new split CD ‘Worldwide Slamicide’ is due out in August and continues along the same lines but with a more mature approach to song writing and construction.
You are playing this Bay Area Death Fest in San Francisco, who are you looking forward to seeing perform there. Will you have time to go sight seeing, what tourist stuff are most excited to see and do while in America. What other touring plans have you for America and the world this year?
Every band on BADF is top quality, some we have seen and played with before and some others we are just discovering. The local bands are all on my to-see list and I am expecting big things. Sadly we wont really have much time for tourism but we will definitely be eating and drinking in the best places we can find.
Who is the bigger twat Adele or Theresa May and which one would you most likely shag?
Being from Liverpool it is safe to say that we all believe May is the biggest Twat and indeed the biggest danger to the future and economy of the UK. And as much as power can be sexy, I believe I speak for us all when we would probably prefer to shag Adele.
What other bands are you guys in and what plans do you have with them, recording, touring?
The UK is incestuous so we all play a lot of bands. Kastrated, Colpocleisis, Horsebastard, Project Mess, Auralskit, Magpyes, Chinsniffer and countless more
What was the first music you bought and what have you bought more than once?
I bought a bunch of Nu Metal singles when I was in high school after my friend played me some. The likes of Deftones, Linkin Park etc. Never bought the same thing again though.

All the time.
Whats the biggest show you have played so far and do you still get nervous before a gig?
Either Obscene Extreme 2013 or Death Feast Open Air 2009. Both were 4 figure audiences so were quite nerve racking when setting up.
Does the current political climate here in America amuse you or scare you?
Scares us really. We laugh from a distance as though it isn’t real but when the reality hits you get a bit scared of what may happen. Probably the same way a lot of foreign countries view the UK to be honest.
Which member of Crepitation is most likely to become addicted to heroin and die from and overdose?
Would not want to suggest to avoid tempting providence.
Out of all your songs which one gets you excited the most when you perform it? Are there any political or social issues besides the obvious hidden in Crepitation songs ?
The newest single ‘Gelatinous Interdimensional Spunk Trumpet’ has some really deep thoughts and ideas and gives us a rush of excitement for sharing such topics with the world.
What endorsements do you have and what endorsements do you still want? What gear are you currently using, amps, effects, guitars?
We dont have any endorsements but Gatorade and Reese’s would be fantastic. I use Ampeg bass rigs, Traben Basses and Sansamp pedals. Our guitarist used Laney Amps and Ibanez guitars. Our drummer builds his own drums.
