Full Metal Jack Off video from the new Fat Dukes of Fuck album released.

“Lyrically, this song makes no fucking sense. It is a “stand up and fight” song about something there is no need to stand up and fight about. The very first line of the first verse was originally written “listen, you maggot” but right before I went to record the vocal I decided I didn’t like it. Dale (Crover) was standing next to me and I asked him for a suggestion, without taking a breath he said “listen, you omelet”. Done.”

Melvins, Jesus Lizard, Qui and Demon Lung members all perform on, and participated in the making of the new album titled, A Compendium of Desperation, Morality and Dick Jokes, by Las Vegas band The Fat Dukes of Fuck. In turns called experimental, cacophonous, unhinged shredder-metal, the new album (out now) is destined to attract even more accolades for the band.

The album was recorded by production team the Dead Nephews aka Dale Crover of the Melvins and Toshi Kasai (Qui, Melvins, Big Business) at Sound of Sirens Studios in Los Angeles. To date Dead Nephews credits include Melvins, Jello Biafra and the Melvins, Qui, Altamont, Geppetto Gestapo, Liars, MIRAI-TOU, ZU and many others. “We ate giant, heart shaped doughnuts, laughed a lot and made a great recording,” Crover says. Kasai adds “You will love it if you can tolerate thousands of profanities.” David Yow (Jesus Lizard) enthused “While The Fat Dukes of Fuck, from my hometown of Las Vegas, NV, aren’t, in fact, dukes, they are talented musicians. And mighty fun. And they rock!” Matt Cronk of Qui concludes “It’s not easy pull off their type of cheeky humor and shredder-metal. Most bands who try consistently fall flat. Yet the FDOF manage to make it endearing rather than stupid.”

The Fat Dukes of Fuck formed in Las Vegas circa 2005 and were joined by Demon Lung drummer Jeremy Brenton in 2009. This lineup has released 2012’s Honey From the Lips of An Angel, plus two splits, and a handful of EPs and has played hundreds of shows in and around Las Vegas with acts like Crowbar, Whores, Earlyman, Helms Alee, Mos Generator, The Mentors, Deadbolt, Mobile Death Camp, Mike Watt, Demon Lung, Peelander-Z, Free Moral Agents, Qui, Green Jelly, Downtown Brown, Marriages, Year of the Cobra, The Bridget the Midget Band and Wrekmeister Harmonies.

“This album was written in a small sweaty room a few years back,” vocalist and band co-founder Brent Lynch explains. “We enlisted the help of The Deaf Nephews to record and help tweak the weirdness of it. It’s a bit darker than our previous records. Toshi and Dale both make appearances by way of voice or instrument on almost every track. We were able to convince David Yow to lend his voice to one track. He also did all the artwork and drank a few of our beers. Our friends Matt and Paul from Qui help out with a ton of the backup vocals as well. When those two sing together it almost makes us cry, but then we remember we are big strong men and push down our emotions like our fathers taught us. Making this album made a lot of our teenage dreams (and adult dreams) come true. We had a lot of fun making it and we hope there are at least a few assholes out there who will enjoy listening to it.”

“What it is, however, is gloriously unhinged and stuffed to the gills with warped riffing, obnoxious sloganeering and moments of mescal-sodden madness worthy of the Butthole Surfers. Fuck yeah,’ wrote Dom Lawson/Metal Hammer of the band’s previous release. Ave Noctom says the band’s songs are “catchy, annoyingly so…Musically it is like a collision of Tenacious D and Frank Z.“ OneThirtyEight sums it up stating the band’s music is “like Chlamydia but dirtier and easier to get.”

The Fat Dukes of Fuck is Brent Lynch on vocals, Jarrod Miller on guitar, Jason Lamb on bass and Jeremy Brenton on drums. The thirteen tracks on A Compendium of Desperation, Morality and Dick Jokes are: 1. “A Compendium Of Desperation, Morality And Dick Jokes,” 2. “Whiskey And Bath Water,” 3. “Mother Of Rhea Pearlman,” 4. “Full Metal Jack Off,” 5. “Side By Side,” 6. “Where Assholes Come To Die,” 7. “Tasteful Ray,” 8. “No Single Men,” 9. “Laughlin Longhorn Suicide Fuck,” 10. “Kodiak Arrest,” 11. “The Monotonous Adventures Of A Hopeaholic,” 12. “Promise Keepers” and 13. “I’ll Tell You When It Hurts.”

The band says “We are probably more influenced by movies and television but our favorite bands include: Melvins, The Jesus Lizard, Faith No More, Ween, Clutch, Dead Kennedys, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Scorpions (Uli era) Necrophagia, Blind Guardian, Candlemass and Cannibal Corpse.”
