Australian thrash metallers Warrior Within are bound to release their second EP In Light Act II on 8 February 2020. The EP follows their first act EP In Darkness Act I, the band released in May 2018. How did you first get into music, who or what turned you on to heavy metal and did you ever enjoy, r&b, hip hop or country?
I Tass Hadoulis (guitarist) found a cassette of Iron Maiden’s ‘Number of the Beast’ on the side of the road when he was hitchhiking when at the ripe old age of 12. This was the beginning of everything I was blown away by this music called Heavy Metal. I did not really follow any music styles before that, I just listened to whatever was on the radio.
Who was your first rock concert, do you have vivid recollection of it and have your parents always approved?
As soon as I was of legal age I started going to gigs. Sepultura’s Arise tour of Australia, at the Hordern Pavillion Sydney 1992.
What was the first music bought with your own money?
Iron Maiden Piece of Mind
How did you acquire your first instrument?
Saved up birthday money
What is your most prized music collectible?
My music collection
What got you started playing music and how old were you?
Discovering Metal & wanting to play it straight away
What kind of feedback have you got from people on the new song that is surprising?
We have had allot of people say we sound heavier on the new E.P. That is due to straighter drumming approach on “In Light Act”. The drumming accentuate the riffs more.
How do you like recording, how much time was spent on dialing in the tones in the studio, how hard is to settle & determine what is the perfect sound?
We enjoyed the recording process very much. That is due to the approach Archive Audio use. Archive Audio’s recording approach is to capture the live sound & life feel of a band. The drums, bass & guitars were recorded in one take were all 3 musicians are feeding of each other. Regarding sound we have taken years to refine our individual tones & we briefed Archive Audio on what sound we were going for. The Archive Audio lads understood this & used the most appropriate mics & gear to achieve this.
