REVOCATION Return With New Album New Gods, New Masters

Boston-based technical death metal titans REVOCATION are back with New Gods, New Masters, their fifth full-length for Metal Blade Records. Spearheaded by founder, vocalist, and guitarist Dave Davidson, the band unleashes nine tracks of searing intensity—an evolution in both sound and vision. Following the acclaim of 2022’s Netherheaven, this latest offering dives even deeper into razor-sharp composition, brutal precision, and philosophical themes that cut to the core of our modern age.

“This record feels like a rebirth,” Davidson explains. “There’s a new level of energy in the band, and that really pushed us creatively.” New blood in the form of Harry Lannon (rhythm guitar, backing vocals) and Alex Weber (bass) has reinvigorated the group, joining long-time drummer Ash Pearson to forge REVOCATION’s most focused and aggressive work yet. “It’s been a pleasure ripping with those guys—Ash always destroys on drums—and I’m constantly striving to evolve in my own playing and songwriting.”

The album title, New Gods, New Masters, reflects Davidson’s growing concerns about the human compulsion toward worship—be it divine or digital. “It’s part of our DNA. As traditional religions fade with scientific progress, we’ve replaced old gods with new ones: technology, innovation, and a kind of cult-like worship of tech leaders. I’m especially fascinated—and disturbed—by the rise of artificial intelligence. It raises real questions about where we’re heading, from digital dystopia to outright extinction.”

To mark the album’s announcement, REVOCATION drops the first single: “Cronenberged”, a sci-fi horror assault featuring guest vocals from Jonny Davy (Job For A Cowboy). “I’m a huge fan of David Cronenberg and the body horror genre he pioneered,” says Davidson. “This is my tribute to that style, with a nod to Rick and Morty for the song title.”

The video doesn’t hold back either: “It’s loaded with practical gore effects—basically a mini sci-fi horror flick. Becoming a tentacled monster was awesome, especially when the crew started gagging off-camera from how gross it was.”

New Gods, New Masters was produced by Davidson and mixed/mastered by Jens Bogren (The Haunted, Spiritbox), with striking cover art from Paolo Girardi (Bell Witch, Cryptopsy). The album also features guest appearances from Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation), Luc Lemay (Gorguts), and jazz virtuoso Gilad Hekselman.
