About a dozen years ago, I went out to the Boardwalk in Orangevale alone one night to avoid being home alone, which I have never enjoyed. I had never heard Some Fear None before that night but liked Nathan’s unique vocals and Some Fear None’s whole vibe. From that point, I caught shows whenever I was available.
In October 2014, my bestie even arranged a birthday surprise for me to go with a group of my friends and family to attend a Some Fear None performance at Sacramento’s Scream Park, since I loved Halloween and loved seeing Some Fear None perform. I made great memories at all of their shows, including my Some Fear None Scream Park birthday, and one very new friend who attended that Scream Park Some Fear None party with me would marry me many years later. I was sad when I heard that Some Fear None disbanded.
Then, recently, I was so extremely excited to hear of the reunion slated to take place September 27, 2025, after so many years at the same venue where I first saw them perform. What I did not realize is how many people who I have not seen at all, or who I have not seen much of in the last decade, would be at the venue for this reunion show. We all seemed grateful to be running into each other, and lately, it is like the band members who were in the Sacramento rock music scene a decade ago are all back performing again now, either in their old bands, like Some Fear None, or in new projects. We spent much of the night catching up with old acquaintances. However, we also got to see some amazingly talented musicians who we run into more often, like Isaiah AR, who was playing drums for the supporting band, Waves of Distortion. They were great and kept the energy high from start to finish.
When it was time for Some Fear None, the Boardwalk in Orangevale was once again full of humans and full of anticipation. They started with an intro of audio clips from long ago highlighting their success and more high-profile performances. Fortunately, the performance that followed, including Nathan’s vocals, Gina’s stage presence, Charles’ guitar, and Jason’s drums lived up to their reputation and thrilled the capacity crowd. They entertained through a long set and an extended encore and for over an hour, it was like no time had passed.
But time has passed, and even though some of us are older, wiser, and probably more sore than we used to be after a night out with great music, good food, and reminiscing with old friends, I highly recommend rock fans of all ages go see Some Fear None whenever they get the opportunity!
