Interview: LONDON MAY on Danzig, Nursing, Horror, Music and the Underground “I Met a Zombie for Real”

By Zoran Theodorovic

London May has never followed a conventional path. His career has taken him from the underground music scene to the stage and screen, from performing with legendary punk and goth musicians to working as a nurse and volunteering in disaster zones. Along the way, he has crossed paths with filmmakers including Christopher Nolan and Ron Howard, embraced horror and the paranormal, and somehow found time to meet what he jokingly—and perhaps not entirely jokingly—describes as a zombie.

In this wide-ranging conversation, May talks about surviving the pressure of performance, returning to acting later in life, the enduring legacy of Danzig and Samhain, the difference between genuine underground culture and Hollywood’s imitation of it, and why he remains fascinated by ghosts, UFOs, Bigfoot and the unexplained. Most of all, he talks about staying hungry.
