Nothing More, Of Mice and Men and Palisades Amaze Ace

Well, this show sold out ridiculously quickly.  Fortunately, people from Illinois, Ohio, Nigeria, and so many other not-so-close-to-Sacramento locations were selling tickets to Sacramento’s February 23 show. As soon I got approved to shoot and review the show, I quickly made a sacrifice to the gods with the hope of my love’s resale ticket being legit and granting him entry on show night; fortunately for us, it was a valid ticket, as I would not have wanted him, or anyone else, to miss experiencing this show with me. Scumdogs of the universe and lords of chaos Gwar, attacked the stage at a sold Ace of Spades with an unbridled fury. Bringing the The Blood of Gods Tour, to a standing or squirming room only crowd, in downtown Sacramento, we were all in for a treat as they pummeled us with “War On Gwar”, the first track off the new record and closing the night out with their cover of the AC/DC classic “If You Want Blood, You’ve Got It”

New Years Day at Ace Of Spades – Sacramento, California

New Years Day is an American rock band formed in 2005 in Anaheim, California. After building a reputation through promotion on the social networking website MySpace, the band released their debut EP in 2006. Their debut album My Dear followed in 2007. The band’s second full length effort, Victim to Villain came out nearly six years after their debut. Their third album, Malevolence was released on October 2, 2015. It peaked at #45 on the Billboard 200, the band’s highest charting.

New Years Day led by the charming and last remaining original member Ashley Costello returned to Sacramento this weekend to a floor capacity crowd as part of a package that included headliners Crown The Empire, Bless The Fall and new up and comers Light The Sky and Too Close To Touch. It was the fourth day of The Retrograde Tour and the band were happy to be back at the Ace of Spades where they have a frantic following. Opening the set with the first track Kill or Be Killed off their new Century Media Records album Malevolence, they had their young soldiers in a raised cellphone camera frenzy.

It was the first Sacramento appearance of new members Joshua Ingram and Frankie Sil who put in a rousing acrobatic performance. The rest of the set included gems from the last two record which the fans were more than happy to hear live. A long line of fans eagerly waiting at the merch booth following their performance, to meet the group, buy goods and take pictures with their idols was a good sign of a well received set. See below for remaining tour dates.
