At The Gates Release New Video Clip For “The Mirror Black”

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES have just kicked off their massive European tour with Behemoth and Wolves In The Throne Room in support of their recent acclaimed album To Drink From The Night Itself. In addition to the tour, the band have also released the limited edition 7″ EP, The Mirror Black, and the Digital EP, With The Pantheons Blind, today.

Topping it off, AT THE GATES are also debuting a video clip for the track “The Mirror Black” featuring guest vocals by Rob Miller (Amebix, Tau Cross). The clip was created by Costin Chioreanu / Twilight13Media, who also is also responsible for the artwork duties of the entire To Drink From The Night Itself release. Check out the video below.
When we decided that we wanted to release the two Rob Miller tracks on a separate 7″, we felt that ‘The Mirror Black’ was worthy of its own video,” states Tomas Lindberg (vocalist) about the release. “Costin was already excited about the idea, and I explained the basic outlines of the idea of the song. Working with Costin always brings in another dimension to our music and my lyrics; so he did his own interpretation of the main theme of the song. I am super happy with the result, I really think that this is one of the best videos AT THE GATES have ever done. There are a lot of hidden meanings and other symbolism in this clip, so you can watch it many times and still find new stuff. We as a band are super excited about this release!”
The 7″ EP features the two songs “The Mirror Black” and “Daggers Of Black Haze” off AT THE GATES’ current album To Drink From The Night Itself and feature guest vocals by Rob Miller (Amebix, Tau Cross).
AT THE GATES – “The Mirror Black” 7″ EP (2 Tracks) – Tracklist:
Side A: The Mirror Black (Featuring Rob Miller) (04:38)
Side B: Daggers Of Black Haze (Featuring Rob Miller) (04:47)

At The Gates Release new single and video for “Daggers Of Black Haze“!

Gothenburg-based melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES continue to promote their upcoming new studio album, “To Drink From The Night Itself”, (Out May 18, 2018 via CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS) by launching its newest single and music video clip for the song “Daggers Of Black Haze”.

WATCH the video for “Daggers Of Black Haze” — created by Costin Chioreanu / Twilight 13 Media (who was also in charge of the album’s artwork concept)– below.

AT THE GATES frontman Tomas Lindberg comments on the track as follows:
Daggers of Black Haze” represents the more progressive side of the new record. It has a lot of reference-points to our early back catalogue, both style wise, and the emotional setting. It is desperate and urgent, but still melancholic and epic. It is conceptually one of the cornerstones of the album. Driving home the point of the need for a war on apathy and the populistic forces that takes advantage of it. This is a fight against the abyss. A beacon for the importance of real art, real forms of expression, and importance of our understanding of our mutual cultural history. The video was filmed by Costin Chioreanu once again, and it is full of symbolism and heavy on the conceptual side. Costin displays the war for art and the importance of standing up to the oppressive powers and paradigms with his film. It is beautiful, striking, melancholic and I am very happy to see his vision of my concept.

Angerot – The Splendid Iniquity – (Black Market Metal)

South Dakota-based death metallers, Angerot rise from the ashes of Midwestern Metal to announce their crushing debut album, The Splendid Iniquity. Featuring a cast of seasoned veterans who share roots that reach back to the very beginnings of the Death Metal Movement, Angerot are more than a nod to early Swedish Death Metal, they are pure Swede Death Worship. Recorded with Eddie G at Underground Studios, mixed by Tomas Skogsberg (Entombed, Dismember, Carnage, Grave, At the Gates) at Sunlight Studios and mastered by Brad Boatright at AudioSeige, The Splendid Iniquity is a savage 40 minute sonic assault of 90’s Earache Records-era buzzsaw on your ear drums.

Pure Swedish death metal worship. That alone sounds like a death metal band. 90’s Swedish death metal had a unique sound that paved the way to a whole new death metal sound. Bands such as Entombed, Dismember, Unleashed, etc. Angerot shows their heavy Swedish death metal influence in the album “The Splendid Iniquity.” It was refreshing to hear that a band can still maintain that classic 90’s OSDM sound while bringing the intensity, brutality and new sound that makes a death metal band stand out. It is one of those albums that makes you go into a certain genre binge for a few weeks. Personally I do have a bias with death metal because of my passion for it, but I can also admit when I do not enjoy a death metal band or song. This was not the case. Once again i will use the word refreshing to describe the overall feeling i had while listening to this album.

Amazing death metal sound complimented by great vocal work and just the overall brutality in sound. This put my speakers to work. I can clearly hear the bass on the album which I love. Heavy bass adds another element to death metal which not every band is aware of. One song that stands out to me is “From the Pit to the Apex.” It has lots of intensity and is a good showcase of every weapon this band has, especially the vocals. The last solo of the song is perhaps my favorite of the whole album. Which is of course not to say there aren’t any more great solos in here. The Splendid Iniquity, reminds me of a mix between Entombed A.D. and Cut Up. Angerot is and example to follow. This is how to stand out from the rest. I will pay close attention to them for future projects. 9/10 easy.

To celebrate the start of their worldwide touring campaign, Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES are now presenting a new video for the track “Heroes And Tombs”, which comes from their comeback studio album and Century Media Records debut, At War With Reality. The stunning animated clip was created by Costin Chioreanu / Twilight 13 Media, who also designed the artwork for the album. To watch “Heroes And Tombs”, head over to Noisey.Vice.com:

AT THE GATES vocalist and lyricist Tomas Lindberg comments: “I am very proud to be able to present the second video from ‘AWWR’, ‘Heroes And Tombs’. To have Costin work on one of our songs this way has been very rewarding. It’s like the next step of the album artwork, and basically more than I could have ever hoped for. Costin paints up a fevered and dark nightmare world that complements the lyrics and music up to the point of perfection. Now I just have to go convince him to do a full length movie for the whole album… ;-)”
