BELUSHI SPEED BALL “Stellkira” (Self Released)

Right from the beginning of their new, self-released, third and best-produced full length (clocking in at 34:59) Louisville, Kentucky-based crossover thrash band BELUSHI SPEED BALL (yes, they take their name from the name of the infamous mixture of heroin and cocaine that killed actor and comedian John Belushi in a rented bungalow at the Chateau Marmont on March 5th, 1982) with the song “My Favorite Color is Pizza”.

This Louisville, Kentucky-based band originally formed in 2013 and has been touring and thrashing clubs on the East Coast since, putting thrash back into metal with their visual attack.

Visual and visceral attacks definitely place them next to elites like S.O.D. and Municipal Waste. My favorite song is “Garth, Let My Family Go” (a lovely tribute to Garth Brooks). It reminds me of the silliness of “Screeching Weasel” and why guys (or gals) just go out and jam in the garage in the first place without a care in the world.

The cover artwork is just amazingly original. They are on tour right now on the East Coast, ending in Rochester, New York, on June 29th. It doesn’t look like any vinyl is going to be available. But they have in the past re-released material on collectable colored records. So, keep your eyes open if you’re a fan. This writer surely is now!

But, all in all, I think this is. The best-produced release to date…Enjoy…
