Dawn Of Morgana Guitarist Jared Deaver Interviewed

Dawn of Morgana is a Symphonic Metal band hailing from the Sacramento Bay Area. Originally featuring Jack Gibson of Exodus on bass guitar (Jack has since been replaced by bassist Marcel Eaton due to overwhelming obligations with Exodus) and front woman Aleen Nova who lends her incredible talent and vast vocal range giving fans of Nightwish, Epica, Leaves Eyes and similar bands something to look forward to! The band stays true to their death metal, thrash metal and symphonic style roots but utilizes the memorable chorus patterns and tempo changes fans expect to keep them wanting more!

How did you first get in to music? Who turned you onto rock/metal?

I started listening to bands like Slayer, Testament, Exodus etc. My older brother started me off hat direction.

How did you become a guitarist? Are you proficient in any other instruments ?

I always liked the guitar parts in metal music and wanted to learn to play them. I started at 12 years old but I don’t play any other instruments.

What was the local scene in Brentwood / Sacramento / Bay Area like in the beginning, was there a particular band you aspired to be like, favorite local bands back then, favorite local bands now?

The Bay Area thrash scene was killer back in the day. I also tried to emulate the local bands that had success.

Has there been times when drugs and alcohol were beneficial to the band.

No. I have never been involved in either and have been lucky enough to work with mostly sober players.

How would you best describe your sound?

Symphonic metal similar to Nightwish, Epica and Delain with a death metal twist.

Do you think having to do ticket pre-sales is the same thing as pay to play?

Yea, either way you have to come up with the money.

What was the first music you bought and what have you bought more than once?

Decide’s – Deicide album was my first death metal album. I have purchased numerous bands albums more than once.

DIY forever or signing with a label at first opportunity?

Depends on what the label is offering and how much they want to take. It can be beneficial or detrimental.

Whats the biggest show you have played so far and do you still get nervous before a gig?

We played in front of about 100 people in Concord at Red House. I still get a little nervous but I am pretty confident in our ability these days which makes it easier.

Is commercial rock radio dead?

Commercial? No, that’s all there is. Underground radio is pretty much dead though.

Favorite songs on the new album and why?

Victory or Valhalla is one of my favorites so far. It’s a very victoriously Viking inspired anthem.

Out of all your songs which one touches you the most when you perform it?

Probably Innocence Lost. It’s all about the birth of my daughter and her being diagnosed with cancer.

Are there any political or social issues hidden in Dawn of Morgana songs ?

No. We try to stay away from those topics.

What was the process of putting the songs in order?

Technology was a big part of it. I used superior drummer and protocols to write and record a lot of the demo ideas.

What endorsements do you have and what endorsements do you still want?

We are endorsed by Nady wireless systems and SP Custom guitars. I would still like to get something for Sarah and Cory to help with their costs.

Bands you would love to tour with and musician or artist you would like to meet and interrogate?

Nightwish would be a good one for us to go out with.

Song to be played at your funeral and 3 albums to take to your grave?

Funeral would be Embers Fade by us and three albums would be Megadeth’s – Rust in Piece, Obituary’s Cause of a Death and Death’s – Human.
