Kevin Ratajczak, one of the frontmen of Eskimo Callboy, sat down (virtually) with Dig Dirkler to talk about how the band is adapting through the pandemic, the evolution of their sound, and what’s next for one of Germany’s wildest metalcore outfits.

Q: How has the pandemic affected the band’s plans for this year, and what positive—if any—changes do you see going forward?
Oh, a lot. Actually, no shows took place in 2020 for Eskimo Callboy. Everything was either postponed or canceled, and yeah, that had a huge impact on our year overall.
On one hand, we couldn’t play any shows or perform live for our fans. But on the other hand, we had a lot of time to write new songs and create music—and that was the good part. We didn’t feel rushed at all. There was no schedule pushing us to leave home for another festival or tour. So we were pretty relaxed in our studio back home, and we could fully immerse ourselves in the music. That was a feeling we hadn’t experienced in years.
