I was lucky enough to attend a sold-out show at the UC Theatre in Berkeley last Friday night, where Cannibal Corpse made a stop while on their “Violence Unimagined North American tour” with support from Whitechapel, Revocation and Shadow of Intent. Unfortunately, due to traffic I wasn’t able to make it in time for the performance of the first band Shadow of Intent, however I made it just in time to catch death metal band Revocation hit the stage.
Revocation came out swinging opening with the track Madness Opus from their 2014 album Deathless. Half their set list consisted of songs from their latest album “The Outer Ones” and they also had some old banger’s like “Communion” and “Only the Spineless Survive”.
Third up, was Death Metal band Whitechapel, supposedly, the name for the band was inspired by Jack the Ripper and the multiple murders he committed in the district Whitechapel in East London. I was thrilled to finally get the opportunity to see these guys play some of their stuff from the new and ninth studio album “Kin”.
I love that Whitechapel decided to open their set with the track Brimstone from their 2019 album Valley, at times I couldn’t help myself and headbang with the beat of the drums which made it difficult to take pictures. During Whitechapel’s time on stage, they performed a series of songs from their past albums such as: “A Bloodsoaked Symphony”, “The Ones That Made Us” and “Lost Boy” from their latest album (Kin 2021). Whitechapel ended their performance with the song, “The Saw is the Law” from their 2014 album Our Endless War
Cannibal Corpse played a mix of new and old fan favorite tracks. However, the highlight ofthe night for me were the songs “Stripped, Raped and Strangled”, and “Fucked With A Knife” from their 1994 The Bleeding album that took me back to my early metal days.
Cannibal Corpse ended the show with the killer fucking song: “Hammer Smashed Face” from their 1992 album Tomb of the Mutilated.
