Jeff Berchielli of NOVA SUTRO “After learning guitar and cello then violin, I picked up drums”

NOVA SUTRO, is a hard rock band, known for their high energy, live performances and raw crunchy guitar tones, that power the revved up driving sound of this band.

How did you first get into music, who or what turned you on to rock and heavy metal?

I always loved listening to the radio. I also had great interest in records and tapes of all kinds.

My first influence in in music would have to be my family; piano lessons with grandma May and my Mother Judith also Aunt Elsa played the keys 🎼🎹🎹

I also loved playing air guitar or bongo drums with anything in the household to tape up or tap a beat on. Like those Quaker Oats cardboard tubes or Xmas paper wrapping tubes flattened.

Who was your first rock concert, do you have vivid recollection of it and have your parents always approved?

Def Leppard and Blackfoot-Memorial Auditorium, High and Dry tour.  My parents trusted us (my brother and his friends took me).

What was the first music bought with your own money?

I remember buying Zeppelin 1, also Dark Side of the Moon at Tower Records.

How did you become a drummer and who are your influences?

After learning guitar and cello then violin, I picked up drums from watching my oldest brother in marching bands and garage bands most of my friends were playing in bands and my close friends started jamming too. I quickly found out that I was better at drums than guitar, So I stuck with drums.

How much has the local scene changed since you started playing in bands?

We used to print flyers and post them all over town out of the back of a pickup truck. Tack them high on every power pole across all major intersections. Now we are supposed to sell tickets; pre-sale pricing for advanced buys. So lame 😒

What’s the best show you have played so far with Nova Sutro and why?

So far, New Year’s Eve at Ace of Spades with Y&T and Frank Hannon Band, December 31, 2018, was off the Hook. Killer Jams all around 💯

What is the plan for recording new music, where, when and with who will be recording you?

Mid-April 2023 we are heading into the Pus Cavern Recording studio! New singles Head Case and Disease have been released since the debut Nova Sutro CD; also, the single Fight Night, which did not make it on the album. We are going to record more new songs early 2023. Look forward to hearing them on your favorite listening platforms. The Debut CD full album was recorded at the Pus Cavern. So was Fight Night. The two Singles-Head Case and Disease were recorded by Audio Edge Recording.

What kind of drum gear is bringing us the Nova Sutro sound?

I play vintage Classic Ludwig 1975 Red Sparkle with Zildjian cymbals.

Who living or dead is in your dream 5-piece super group with you?

I never thought about a supergroup with me, but would be down to play with Jimi Hendrix, Pepper Keenan. Flea and Phil Anselmo

What is your favorite album cover?
