Bay Area metalheads, take heed: The Sword is back, and they’re bringing the full force of Warp Riders to San Francisco for one night only — August 27 at the legendary Great American Music Hall.
Celebrating the 15th anniversary of their groundbreaking third album, Warp Riders, the Austin heavyweights are performing the full record live — a rare, possibly one-time-only event fans won’t want to miss. As frontman JD Cronise puts it: “This is probably the only chance people will have to see us perform the entire album, so don’t miss out!”
Released in 2010, Warp Riders marked a bold step into sci-fi concept territory for the band, combining interstellar storytelling with thunderous riff-driven power. Praised by Pitchfork as “Camaro-ready riff-rock,” and hailed by the BBC for its “fantastical grandeur… on par with the bands who built the power metal subgenre,” the album remains a fan favorite — and a high point in The Sword’s celebrated discography.
After announcing their long-awaited reunion earlier this year, The Sword is once again commanding stages across the country. From the crushing grooves of “Tres Brujas” to the mythic swagger of “Lawless Lands,” the Warp Riders live experience promises to be an epic return to form.
Joining them in San Francisco are tour support Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol, and the fuzz-drenched energy of Pink Fuzz.
