Roseville Awed by JOHN 5 and RICHIE KOTZEN – Concert Review & Photos

By Jennifer Black Glennon

On October 18, 2025, hard rock and metal fans lined Vernon Street waiting for their chance to get a good spot for one or both of the headlining artists who were to perform for around an hour each that night.

John 5 has 11 studio albums alone and is known for his solo work, for performing with other artists such as Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie, and more recently, for his work as a member of Motley Crue, so he has a diverse fan base. Richie Kotzen is a guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist who is known for being supergroup Winery Dogs’ frontman since 2012, for his impressive 20+ solo albums, and for his time with Poison and Mr. Big. Together, they are quite the draw.

So, who was the crowd there to see? From the attendees I spoke with, while guitarists liked and respected both performers, most fans were still specifically there for one or the other based on their inclination to listen to either hard rock or metal. It was a pretty even split, but definitely a split. Both groups of fans seemed interested in both performances, though, which is not as common to hear.

The first act of the evening, Vern Daysel & The Burning Breeze, brought a soulful Southern rock sound to support the 2024 album Round Up the Wagons. Vern immigrated from South Africa and tours frequently with his Florida-based band. Everyone there could see why he is a popular choice.

I was super-excited to photograph John 5 and to see him perform again, as I am a huge, biased fan from his time with Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie, and I enjoy his solo work immensely. I could easily watch and listen to him play guitar all night. What was different and notable this time was hearing him incorporate some Motley Crue into his solo setlist. He is consistently exceptional, and the melodic, recognizable vibe of those additional songs really melded well with the other bands’ sets and tied everything together. John performed with his drummer.

Finally, Richie Kotzen closed out the show with a captivating solo material set that sounded amazing in this club setting. Richie could entertain a crowd by himself but on this tour, he was accompanied by his drummer and his bassist. All on stage were talented and appeared to be having such a nice time that it would be difficult to not enjoy the set, as well.

Overall, the two headliners came together to bring those in Roseville a long night of beautiful music. If you have the opportunity to see John 5 and Richie Kotzen in your area, scoop up tickets before they sell out!
