Goldfield Rocks Roseville With BABYLON GYPSIES, BORN & RAISED, And BUSHWHACKED – Concert Review & Photos

By Christopher Crone

Goldfield in Roseville was buzzing Friday night as three high octane bands; Babylon Gypsies, Born & Raised, and Bushwacked, turned the historic venue into a full blown rock showcase. From gritty riffs to crowd shaking choruses, the lineup delivered a night that felt tight, loud, and just unpredictable enough to keep things exciting.

Babylon Gypsies kicked things off, and as usual, they came out swinging. I’ve seen them several times now, and they never phone it in, always tight, always powerful, locked in from the first note. This time they had Bill Hunting from Big Machine filling in on drums, and he slid into the set so naturally you’d think he’d been playing with them for years. Robert continues to be a standout on guitar, ripping through solos with precision and a tone that cuts right through the mix. Steve Carver held down the low end with his usual energy, moving across the stage and keeping the groove alive. The chemistry in this band is real, and it shows every time they plug in.

Born & Raised came out swinging too, opening with “She” and immediately pulling the crowd in. From there they tore through originals like “Rebel Soul,” “Devil Song,” and “Flyin’,” each one building momentum and showing off their gritty, homegrown rock sound. Will Daniel was a force pounding the drums while belting out vocals, pulling double duty without missing a beat. One of the most memorable moments of the night came when Will’s son wandered into the spotlight, dancing around and soaking up the room’s energy. It was a genuine, feel good moment that added something special to the set. Born & Raised didn’t just play they made the stage feel like their living room.

Bushwacked closed out the night with a set that felt like a celebration from the first chord to the final bow. I’d recently seen Jud at the All-Star Jam at the Opera House Saloon back in November, so I was especially excited to see him fronting his own band. Jud is a natural showman—commanding the stage, connecting with the crowd, and making even a big room feel personal. Nothing about it feels forced; he just knows how to work a stage.

The band behind him was tight and responsive, locking into grooves that hit hard while still leaving room for personality. Bushwacked’s bass player, Paulie Davis Laughlin, gave off tall skinny Angus Young energy, but instead of the schoolboy uniform, he was decked out in full cowboy gear, adding a fun Western outlaw twist. Guitar leads soared without overplaying, the rhythm section kept everything driving forward, and the mix was crisp and punchy. You could tell these guys genuinely enjoy what they’re doing, and that energy fed straight into the crowd. By the end of the set, people weren’t just watching, they were fully invested, cheering loud and sticking around long after the last note faded.

Goldfield continues to be one of the best spots in the region for catching rising and established acts alike, and Friday night proved it again. Three bands, three distinct styles, and one packed room made for a strong start to the February concert calendar. If this show is any indication, 2026 is going to be a loud, memorable year.

  2. How come I didn’t see or hear the name of Lance Richard the lead singer of Babylon Gypsies ????? He is talented , interesting , different, his stage presence is off the hook. He’s a natural he has years of experience and without him; there wouldn’t be any Babylon Gypsies so I’m kind of disappointed of this article because the lead Singer to me , is the one who makes the band.
