Interview: Same Drug, New High: Captain Poon on SGs, AC/DC, Punk Roots, and the Return of GLUECIFER

By Dig Dirkler

Few bands defined the late-’90s Scandinavian hard rock wave like Gluecifer. After more than two decades, the band is back with Same Drug, New High—a record that strips things down to their raw essentials while reconnecting with the heavy spirit that made them legendary. We caught up with guitarist Captain Poon via Zoom to talk guitars, early obsessions with AC/DC and punk rock, the realities of reunion albums, and why authenticity matters more than brand names or trends.

Gluecifer’s return isn’t about chasing the past—it’s about reclaiming the essence of what made them powerful in the first place. From SG dreams and punk roots to stripped-down amps and renewed confidence, Same Drug, New High stands as a reminder that great rock doesn’t need reinvention—just honesty, volume, and belief. If you loved them then, or you’re discovering them now, Glucifer is ready to make some new friends.
