From the line of people on Euclid Ave all the way down East 4th street it was apparent the hot ticket for the night at the Cleveland House of Blues was Mike Patton’s Tomahawk. Opening with the track Flashback from their debut self titled album , the eccentric crowd held on to every word and note the experimental band laid out for consumption.
Led by the most versatile voice in music the band plowed through a vast array of songs from their catalog. Playing Shhh and Predators and Scavengers from their last release,Tonic Immobility , the band and particularly Mike Patton were in the midst of worship from the sold out crowd. Mike was mostly blocked off with his stand that held various toys for his vast sound experimentation. Birdsong was a definite highlight of the set. At the end of the set Patton teased the crowd with telling the he had a song for them they might like and proceeded to lay into Hot Rod Lincoln. A cute little way to leave the stage with the anticipation of the gratuitous encores. A cover of Duane Eddy’s Stalkin’ and Rise Up Dirty Waters off of Oddfellows were well received. Closing the night out with God Hates a Coward was a fitting end to a show that pleased the Patton fans and clearly made their night a worthwhile event. In the parting words of Mike Patton “stay thirsty my friends”.
