After seven years of writing across state lines, overcoming studio setbacks, and pushing themselves to their physical and creative limits, progressive extreme metal duo Iapetus have unveiled their most ambitious album yet. Matt Sarami and Jordan Navaro discuss the making of The Mother Void, collaborating with Fabian Erni, and the cosmic narrative connecting their discography.
Seven years is a long time between albums, but for Iapetus, the wait for The Mother Void was about more than simply writing and recording new music. Following the release of 2019’s The Body Cosmic, the progressive extreme metal duo found themselves living on opposite sides of the country, forcing them to rethink their creative process and navigate the challenges of remote collaboration.
