Few bands in heavy metal have maintained the kind of loyalty, chemistry, and authenticity that Armored Saint has carried for more than four decades. While countless legendary groups have splintered, rebooted, or transformed into revolving-door lineups, Armored Saint continues to thrive with the same core spirit that started in East Los Angeles back in the early ’80s.Before taking the stage with Saxon in the Bay Area, vocalist John Bush and bassist Joey Vera sat down to talk about the band’s origins, lifelong friendships, touring memories with Metallica, the infamous armor, and the power behind their album Win Hands Down.

Even after more than 40 years, Armored Saint continues to tour internationally and play major festivals alongside legendary acts like Queensrÿche. More importantly, the band still sounds hungry. “We really do think we made a killer album,” Bush said. “There’s a real good feeling right now in the band.” That feeling — rooted in loyalty, friendship, and authenticity — may be the real reason Armored Saint has endured while so many others faded away. And although one disappointed fan learned that “Warzone” wouldn’t make the setlist that night, one thing was clear: Armored Saint remains exactly what longtime fans want them to be — genuine, grounded, and still proudly carrying the torch for classic heavy metal.
