New Years Day at Ace Of Spades – Sacramento, California

New Years Day is an American rock band formed in 2005 in Anaheim, California. After building a reputation through promotion on the social networking website MySpace, the band released their debut EP in 2006. Their debut album My Dear followed in 2007. The band’s second full length effort, Victim to Villain came out nearly six years after their debut. Their third album, Malevolence was released on October 2, 2015. It peaked at #45 on the Billboard 200, the band’s highest charting.

New Years Day led by the charming and last remaining original member Ashley Costello returned to Sacramento this weekend to a floor capacity crowd as part of a package that included headliners Crown The Empire, Bless The Fall and new up and comers Light The Sky and Too Close To Touch. It was the fourth day of The Retrograde Tour and the band were happy to be back at the Ace of Spades where they have a frantic following. Opening the set with the first track Kill or Be Killed off their new Century Media Records album Malevolence, they had their young soldiers in a raised cellphone camera frenzy.

It was the first Sacramento appearance of new members Joshua Ingram and Frankie Sil who put in a rousing acrobatic performance. The rest of the set included gems from the last two record which the fans were more than happy to hear live. A long line of fans eagerly waiting at the merch booth following their performance, to meet the group, buy goods and take pictures with their idols was a good sign of a well received set.
