After more than three decades on the road with Swiss hard rock veterans Shakra, Mark Fox still gets nervous before a show.
Not the kind of nerves that make a seasoned frontman question whether he belongs onstage. For Fox, it’s something more elemental—the feeling that something is about to happen.
“It’s like a thunderstorm is coming,” he says. “You feel it in the air.”
That anticipation is at the heart of Just Live Loud, Shakra’s latest album and a record Fox describes as his best work yet. But our conversation goes far beyond the music. Fox talks about recording his vocals alone in his basement, becoming a father, the challenges of keeping a band together for more than 30 years, the changing music industry, social media, aliens, his unwavering loyalty to the Shure SM58, and why communication ultimately saved his relationship with his bandmates.
