Interview with Dave from INSANITY – Benefit Show, Bay Area History, and What’s Next

On a powerful night filled with music, memories, and meaning, Capital Chaos TV caught up with Dave from Insanity at Eli’s in Oakland, where a benefit show was being held for longtime friend and fellow musician Alex, who is currently battling stage 4 colon cancer.

Dave opened up about Alex, the early days of Insanity, the legacy of their late drummer Buddy Mills, and what the band has planned for the future.

We’re here tonight for a benefit show for Alex. Can you talk a little bit about who Alex is and what this show means?

Dave (Insanity):
Alex was a good friend from back in the day—one of the coolest and funniest guys you could ever meet. We used to share a studio with his band, Stress, which later became Type A. After moving to Seattle for 19 years, he came back when he found out he had cancer.

His friends—including us—wanted to do something for him. His other guitar player helped organize this benefit show. It just felt like the right thing to do.

He’s in treatment right now?

Dave:
Yeah, stage 4 colon cancer. He’s going through chemo. All the money from tonight—the door, raffles, everything—goes straight to him. People can also donate directly to him at meetcombo19@yahoo.com

Insanity has always been a foundational piece of Bay Area death metal history. Whether it’s pushing forward with new music or honoring old friends, their legacy is as powerful now as it was in the mid-’80s. Thanks again to Dave for taking the time to chat with Capital Chaos TV. Make sure to support Alex, check out the new Insanity releases this fall, and keep an eye out for shows near you!
