Seven Churches, Satan’s Curse

POSSESSED took San Francisco’s metal scene by storm, playing with fellow Bay Area thrashers and friends EXODUS, and other bands- many now long gone. In 1982-1983, they recorded a four song demo. One of the demo tracks, “Swing of the Axe” ended up on the Metal Massacre 6 compilation and later on “The Best of Metal Massacre.” Released in October 1985 on Combat Records, Seven Churches set a new standard for extreme music. Combining lightening fast riffs, Becerra’s raspy trademark growl and speedy bass playing, Pummeling drums and Randy Burns’ production, Seven Churches created a whole new genre of music- death metal. Seven Churches went on to be one of Combat Records’ best-selling albums. Not bad for a quartet of high school kids!

Beyond the Gates. Released on Halloween in 1986, this album was especially well-received in Europe where they toured at the end of the year. The album that changed the landscape of heavy metal, Beyond The Gates was the highest selling Combat album that year.

At The Gates Release New Video Clip For “The Mirror Black”

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES have just kicked off their massive European tour with Behemoth and Wolves In The Throne Room in support of their recent acclaimed album To Drink From The Night Itself. In addition to the tour, the band have also released the limited edition 7″ EP, The Mirror Black, and the Digital EP, With The Pantheons Blind, today.

Topping it off, AT THE GATES are also debuting a video clip for the track “The Mirror Black” featuring guest vocals by Rob Miller (Amebix, Tau Cross). The clip was created by Costin Chioreanu / Twilight13Media, who also is also responsible for the artwork duties of the entire To Drink From The Night Itself release. Check out the video below.
When we decided that we wanted to release the two Rob Miller tracks on a separate 7″, we felt that ‘The Mirror Black’ was worthy of its own video,” states Tomas Lindberg (vocalist) about the release. “Costin was already excited about the idea, and I explained the basic outlines of the idea of the song. Working with Costin always brings in another dimension to our music and my lyrics; so he did his own interpretation of the main theme of the song. I am super happy with the result, I really think that this is one of the best videos AT THE GATES have ever done. There are a lot of hidden meanings and other symbolism in this clip, so you can watch it many times and still find new stuff. We as a band are super excited about this release!”
The 7″ EP features the two songs “The Mirror Black” and “Daggers Of Black Haze” off AT THE GATES’ current album To Drink From The Night Itself and feature guest vocals by Rob Miller (Amebix, Tau Cross).
AT THE GATES – “The Mirror Black” 7″ EP (2 Tracks) – Tracklist:
Side A: The Mirror Black (Featuring Rob Miller) (04:38)
Side B: Daggers Of Black Haze (Featuring Rob Miller) (04:47)

THE DANDY WARHOLS Reveal “Why Are You So Crazy” Album Details

Celebrations for The Dandy Warhols’ 25th anniversary include a new album, Why You So Crazy‘ (Dine Alone Records), a single-shot 360° short film featuring Mad Men’s Jessica Paré for the single ‘Be Alright,’ and a 2019 tour of Europe, the UK and North America as well as exclusive goodies available viaPledgeMusic. “The weirdest thing about it being ‎our 25th anniversary is it doesn’t feel like 25 years. Feels like about six. Or five,” muses frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor.
The release of their 10th studio album will see The Dandy Warhols return in singularly freewheeling fashion, careening through classically off-kilter psych-pop (Be Alright), high country-fried Americana (‘Motor City Steel’), and gothic piano-propelled rumbas (Forever’). Packing in references as far flung as Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Don MacLean’s Chevy, and the church of Bowie’s ‘Modern Love,’ these 12 songs reflect the band’s surrealist visions of an alternate reality.
The 360° short film for ‘Be Alright,’ which centers around the consumption of a magic wine, was done in a single shot and filmed at the band’s space, Odditorium, which includes a bar owned by Taylor-Taylor who has a deep passion for the wine world. Directed by Taylor-Taylor, the video was written and conceived by Kevin Moyer, award winning creative who has worked on music projects with and featuring Elliott Smith, Modest Mouse, Daniel Johnston, Pearl Jam, Portugal The Man, Willie Nelson, and many others.

“We’ve always been driven to create art with emotional clarity,” says Taylor-Taylor. “That’s what the world needs more than ever right now. I’ve never felt so strongly that people are losing their minds, and it’s more of them than ever before. Local politics, international politics, news programs, sitcoms, and our president all feel like the heat got turned up. It doesn’t feel like a natural progression of insanity, it just happened. Most people are behaving in a manner that can only be described as batshit crazy.”

To help counter the insanity, The Dandy Warhols are hitting the road in 2019. European/UK dates will stop in Antwerp, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester and London. North American dates will bring them to Atlanta, Washington, Boston, Brooklyn, Toronto, Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco.

New Lyric Video From Long-Running Death Metal Unit MISERY INDEX

Rituals Of Power is the imminent new full-length from long-running American death metal powerhouse MISERY INDEX. Set to drop March 8th via Season Of Mist, the record boasts nine crushing tracks centered around the concept of “truth” and its use throughout history as a means to uphold power, regimes, and ideologies.
In advance of the record’s release, Decibel Magazine offers up the official lyric video for Rituals Of Power’s title track noting, “The sixth out of nine songs, ‘Rituals of Power’ is a high-speed chunk of ripping death metal that simultaneously grooves and grinds, showcasing MISERY INDEX at their finest. Oh, and the song is catchy without sacrificing its extremity.”
Offers the band, “‘Rituals Of Power’ represents the album’s title track and most musically dynamic offering. We wanted to create something that captured the tension of this modern era; something that conjures visions of civilizational collapse and lost ideals gone astray and embeds them in riffs as monolithic as they are haunting. It is an anthem of hope as much as it is a cautionary tale; an end times farewell letter from the front lines of history. Turn it up and enjoy the ride…”

View “Rituals Of Power,” below.  Rituals Of Power will be released in several formats including standard jewel case CD and digitally as well as limited LP, limited cassette, and limited deluxe digibox which includes bonus cover tracks – Nailbomb’s “Wasting Away” and M.O.D.’s “Man Of Your Dreams” – as well as a carabiner with key strap and bottle opener, a patch, and three vinyl stickers.

ULTHAR Announces North American Headlining Tour With Scorched

Thematically heavy on weird, supernatural horror and a bizarre Rudimentary Peni surrealism,ULTHAR is a difficult to classify spectral entity.
